Turkey Day games

Packers' defense is atrocious. Not even like they were maxing coverage either, Megatron was singled most of the game and on the bench when they were up. Packers knew what was coming and couldn't stop it. Pathetic

What is it? Oakland's 3rd string QB looks way better than anything I've seen from Jags in past few years. Flynn, Pryor, McGloin

That might lower Henne's (and Gabbert's) stress level a bit. Only reason why he is still on the team is Caldwell is hoping for a conditional 2016 7th rd pick We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Jennings with 2 TDs for OAK. Awesome. I did not watch because I was afraid it would be a blowout. What else did he do in Dallas?
I know his first name is Torrey, but for a while every time I saw SMITH above the number 82 during the Steelers/Ravens game, I thought of Jimmy - our Jimmy Smith, not theirs.
Shaun Shuisam is garbage. He can't even put his foot on the ball. At first I thought it was a fake, but replays showed he tried to kick it and missed the football. The Steelers should have punted. Very rarely does the team with more turnovers win the game, even if the quarterback is Peyton Manning (as we saw Sunday night). But no way does Green Bay lose if overtime was still sudden death and I could start a long thread about that rule change. Why? Because the Vikings suck. They did not deserve what they got in Green Bay - half a win - even with Scott Tolzein starting at quarterback for the Packers. I think a key factor in the Lions win over the Packers, once the Lions stopped turning the ball over on a consistent basis in this game, was the Packers playing a full 5 QTR game against the Vikings 4 days ago. While the Lions are usually effective moving the football because the team is well balanced with playmakers in the passing and running game and underrated blocking, what really helped the Lions in this game is that the Packers seemed fatigued. The missed Packers tackles were a combination of good ability and effort by Reggie Bush and Joique Bell and the Packers being on the field way too long. The Lions Defense played a tremendous game, forcing the Packers off the field on many 3 and outs and after one 1st Down on some other drives. That made the situation worse for the Packers Defense. As it turned out, the Lions won the game despite a -1 turnover ratio. Yet, the Lions had 3 times as many takeways in the 2nd half of this game compared to the previous 5 games. The + 2 takeaway ratio in the 2nd half of the game for the Lions was a huge reason why the Lions took total control of this game. Not only did it ended Packers drives but it put their tired Defense back on the field.

Anyone see MIke Tomlin almost trip Jones?

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
Quote:What the heck? Matt Flynn is looking like Blaine Gabbert out there. This game from a Lions Defensive standpoint reminded me greatly of the 7-3 win over the Packers in December, 2010. Unlike the 2011 finale in which Matt Flynn had plenty of time to pick apart a depleted Lions Secondary, in the December, 2010 game, the Lions Defensive Line dominated the game. Flynn came in for an injured Aaron Rodgers late in the 2nd QTR of that game. Unless Flynn has very favorable game conditions, he's going to struggle noticeably more often than not. Quote:Packers' defense is atrocious. Not even like they were maxing coverage either, Megatron was singled most of the game and on the bench when they were up. Packers knew what was coming and couldn't stop it. Pathetic I'll be surprised if Defensive Coordinator Dom Capers is retained for the 2014 season. Many thought Capers would lose his job after the 49ers ripped the Packers Defense in the 2nd Round of the playoffs last season. I don't think Capers is going to be as fortunate this time around. Especially with the way their run Defense has now fallen off. If the Packers would have been able to control the Vikings running game last Sunday, they would have won that game way before having to play a full 5 QTR game. If the Packers would have been able to control the Vikings running game last Sunday, they would have won that game way before having to play a full 5 QTR game. Right now I am thinking Green Bay's OC should be fired too. What in the world was he thinking telling Matt Flynn to stand in the shotgun in the end zone with T.J. Lang playing at center? Ugh! Quote:Whimper v. Suggs? lol One of the worst aspects of the Lions losing to the Steelers 12 days ago was that Guy Whimper played the entire game for Pittsburgh at LG for an injured Ramon Foster. Nick Fairley absolutely dominated Whimper in the 2nd QTR of that game. The Lions # 4 DT Andre Fluellen also had his way with Whimper. The Steelers started giving Whimper help, which the Lions didn't compensate for in the 4th QTR when the game was decided. I'm really surprised that Whimper has lasted in the NFL as long as he has. The effort is probably there but the ability isn't. Quote:Anyone see MIke Tomlin almost trip Jones? Why the officials didn't award the Ravens a TD on that play is beyond me.
Quote:Anyone see MIke Tomlin almost trip Jones? Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth thought Tomlin prevented Jacoby Jones from going out of bounds. Now why in the world would the opposing coach do something that is obviously going to create more yards for the Ravens? And if Tomlin was trying to trip Jones, why did he jump away at the last second? He also got in an official's way, so he should have known who was watching him do it. I had no idea such a smart coach could do something so stupid. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Why the officials didn't award the Ravens a TD on that play is beyond me. I guess it is the referee's decision whether a touchdown should be awarded or not. What is the rule on that? I did not even know that was permitted until I heard Cris Collinsworth say it. In the end, it did not matter. The Ravens won the game anyway. Quote:Right now I am thinking Green Bay's OC should be fired too. What in the world was he thinking telling Matt Flynn to stand in the shotgun in the end zone with T.J. Lang playing at center? Ugh! In fairness to Mike McCarthy and the Offensive Coaches, the Packers had no answer for the Lions Defense in this game. The Packers couldn't run the ball. As well as the Lions have played the run since after Eddie Lacy's 99 yard performance in Week # 5, yesterday's game was the best Defensive performance against the run all season for the Lions. Even with Evan Dietrich-Smith, the Packers couldn't run the ball and had problems protecting Matt Flynn. Once EDS was injured, it made a bad situation for the Packers even worse. While Center isn't Lang's natural position, a bigger problem for the Packers was backup T-G Marshall Newhouse struggled mightily at both positions when he was in the game after EDS got hurt and the Packers juggled their O-Line. To the extent that Newhouse was eventually benched. It's hard to believe that he was the Packers starting LT in past seasons. As much as I'm thrilled with the way various Lions Defensive Lineman handled Newhouse today, Newhouse looked like he belonged on the waiver wire. Quote:I guess it is the referee's decision whether a touchdown should be awarded or not. What is the rule on that? I did not even know that was permitted until I heard Cris Collinsworth say it. Basically, Cris Collingsworth described the rule. If a coach or player on the bench interferes with the action on the field and the Officials determine that it prevented a TD, a TD can be awarded. It looked very apparent that Mike Tomlin prevented a Jacoby Jones TD. |
