The head of the snake

Two pieces in two different offseasons cut.

Fisch:  An unproven college coach who fizzled out in the NFL.  Rumors of belittling the QB were reported more than once.

Babich:  A bad track record in the NFL.  He was on his way out in Chicago before good old Gus hired him.  This Gus is  partially responsible for this team finishing near the bottom of the league 3 consecutive years.

So who is responsible for hiring these failures?  Is it a Dave and Gus combo or is Gus mostly responsible.  Admitting your offensive coordinator and Defensive coordinator were mistakes is a critical error especially for a young football team.

I don't think anyone could have coached the talent on this defense to much better than what we saw this year, but a head had to roll.  The sacrificial offering has been made.  It's not going to be enough for some.

Better to admit it and try and fix it then just let it go. To some extent it probably really does come down to a lack of talent. If Gus made an error initially with the offense he sure has seemed to have addressed it. Does Gus get credit for bringing in Olson then?

Dewayne Walker and yeah he's awful. He only won like 2 or 3 games as Head coach in what 3 yrs at New Mexico State. Dumb hire by

Gus.

Hiring Babich and Fisch as coordinators were two massive mistakes from the beginning.

How dare Gus pass up on all the top notch coordinators who were just dying to sign on with a rebuilding franchise and a brand new head coach.

For those with half-filled glasses, Fisch was replaced by Olson. If Gus hits another home run with a new DC and Dave improves the defensive roster, we may have nothing to gripe about.

I'm curious if guys like Coughlin, Sean Payton, Jason Garrett, Andy Reid, Rex Ryan etc ever fired a member or members from their coaching staff before. If so they must be terrible coaches since they hired those guys.

Even Sean Payton had the play calling role taken away from him by Jim Fassel when Payton was the Giants Offensive Coordinator.
