Final Fantasy VII remake

Quote:I completely disagree. The dialogue/cutscenes are the whole point. I thought the game was brilliant, I didn't like horse combat but I rarely used it. If I was on horseback I just sprinted the roads, all other exploring was on foot and never got boring.

Maybe I like to play a video game not watch a video game movie.  The exploring is pretty repetitive same with the fighting.  loot loot loot explore hike.. hike here... loot loot listen to long winded story about how some guy who doesnt trust witchers.  The best thing about the whole game is the card playing and the graphics.  The whole thing is just repetitive.

Go Jags!

2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice

See I hated the card game lol

I thought it was less repetitive than the classic rpg side quests

I think the combat animation in Witcher 3 is great.

Fighting that griffin for the first time was something else.  I haven't seen any animation like that in any game of that genre, though admittedly I played Oblivion but didn't get to Skyrim.

I haven't played witcher 3 but I have played witcher 2 and the combat on that was about 10x better than Skyrim lol.  Skyrim while a very good game, combat was a huge weak spot.

The Griffin fight was pretty good my issue with the combat was more with people in the cities, horse combat in general, and the way you can completely hold your own and dominate something 20 levels higher than you but when you hit them you do hardly any damage.  The game is more about grinding than it is about getting better at it.

Side note:  I think Darksouls, demon souls, and bloodborne have ruined other games for me.

I worry about the episodic nature. Will my party carry over to the next episode? Is it going to be like DLC that expands the story or just a brand new game?

They say each "episode" will have a full game's worth of content, I wonder if they make something like original disc 1, 2, and 3 each their own episode. If it's a DLC nature where I can just a keep playing with my party I'm cool with it I guess, just don't want that Telltale Games style crap.

My concern about episodic is the cost. Given SE's track record lately, it wouldn't surprise me to see a near full price $49 for the "first game", then the subsequent will be $15

Also as for boss battles in RPGs, they all need to look to Dragon's Dogma (which was flawed, but does a few things that are really cool). See for yourself

Quote:FF VII doesn't hold up graphics-wise. The characters are horrible looking due to it being one of the first games to use 3d for their characters. If you buy FFVII on Steam, you can download a 3rd-party graphics patch that makes the game look so much better. I would recommend going that route as that game is SO much better than FFVIII or any of the newer Final Fantasys.

8,9, 10 are better

I have heard good things about Bloodborne, but have never played it.

I researched quite a bit before deciding which game to buy.  One of my decisions was between Witcher 3 and Dragons Age: Inquisition.

I didn't play either of the first two Witcher games, nor did I read any of the novels.  Everything I read/saw indicated you didn't need to, though I am sensing background information I am lacking as I go on a quest.  I am able to go on and play, just that additional context might have been decent to have.

Be wary, Bloodborne is hard. Really, really hard. And this is coming from a guy who was baptized at the church of Ryu Hayabusa. It's an amazing looking game, but there are some spots in it that simply seem unobtainable.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Home or coin op version?

I can't think of the hardest game I've ever played.  Some of the old coin ops with multiple buttons (i.e. Defender) have to rank up there.

I think I will hold off on Bloodborne.  Right now, I am still engrossed in Witcher 3.  I still haven't even played Infamous : Second Son yet.

I can't speak to some of the horse combat issues yet.  But some of the story lines in this game are intense (Bloody Baron).

That's what I've heard, and was a big reason why I decided to pick it up thinking that it would be easier to play. If this is easy, then I can't imagine playing Dark Souls. I'm just in a vicious loop right now where I venture out from a Lantern (save point) and I get up to a certain point but have to go back to replenish materials via the same lantern. It's like I'm just not moving ahead at all.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Home. The first I ever played was Ninja Gaiden on the NES. Then I went to the Xbox version (awesome!) and then to Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3. If I have learned anything in my video gaming life, it's that you do not want to be Ryu Hayabusa's Dad.

ya there is a horde pretty early in the game around a giant bonfire that is good to teach you strategy in the game.  Alot of players actually run by them because they tend to burn you through all your materials early in the game.  Its almost training for later on in the game.  What I would do is farm those people a few times level up whatever weapon you have, get a good feel for the pistol execution move and you will progress rapidly after that.  I was stuck in the first area for a while (central yarnham).  Now I'm stuck much further in the game at this stupid spider monster that i can 7/8s of the way kill.

as to the souls games.  They are unforgiving in some of the game mechanics but the game does train you with every death and after an hour of not getting anywhere and being angry at dying so much you tend to suddenly make great progress and see how good the game really is.

I did it wrong and played DS2 before DS and then played Demon Souls which is an order that goes from easiest to hardest probably.

the replay-ability on the games is great as you can completely change up your character to fight completely differently.

last suggestion youtube a couple lore videos from Vaatividya since the game has an immense story you have to figure out on your own through lots of reading his videos really tap into the spirit of the games

Tell ya what, in an effort to not derail this thread completely I'm going to create a Bloodborne thread to ask you a few questions. Hop on over there and we can talk?
