Second round pick

#1

Are there any specific players you think the Jaguars should pick at #38? Would you trade either up or down in the second round? What position group do you think should be upgraded with the 38th pick?

As part of the punishment for Deflategate, the Patriots forfeited their first round pick. That is why we have 38 instead of 39.

32, Browns

33. Titans

34. Cowboys

35. Chargers

36. Ravens

37. 49ers

38. Jaguars

39. Buccaneers

40. Giants

41. Bears

It's so hard to say, because we don't know how the first 37 picks are going to play out.   The simplest answer would be, we should select the very best defensive player available.   But there's no way to know who that will be, because we don't know the first 37 picks.

Or the best offensive lineman if he's clearly better than any of the defenders left at that point.

If I assume the many mocks and others are correct with the Jags taking FS/CB Jalen Ramsey with the first pick, then, ideally, I would like to see the best available pass rusher taken.  Some to consider, if available: Noah Spence, Leonard Floyd, Shilique Calhoun, or Jonathan Bullard to name a few.  A wild card for me is if LB Jaylon Smith falls due to his knee injury, I might be tempted to take him as I do believe he is a big time player when recovered.

Jaylon Smith will not fall out of the first round.

I am all for Jonathan Bullard if we don't pick a lineman at #5.

If the Jags don't take a pass rusher in the first round, then I think there's a good chance Calhoun is there in the second.

That would be a sensible pick. Could rotate with Fowler and line up on the other end on 3rd down some.

(I think Bullard won't make it to 38)

With the common belief of Ramsey being our 1st, if there is a better o-lineman than all of the left over defensive players, take him.

If they're serious about moving Cann or Linder to C - then Cody Whitehair and Vadal Alexander (guards) will likely be there for the taking in the early second round.

I have seen Shaq Lawson mocked to last to the 2nd round a couple of times, but I would take him or Shilique Calhoun if available depending on who we take in the 1st.

I have a feeling that if they are seriously considering Cann/Linder at center, it's because they believe they can land someone like Osemele in free agency. Perhaps they do feel Cann/Linder would be suited at center than guard, but I don't think you'd move one of what looks like a two longterm answers at guard to center simply for the sake of doing so.

"Last to the second round" does not exactly mean he will be there at 38. This could be an example of why we need to look at the first six second round picks.

Also, Bucky Brooks mocked Shaq Lawson to go #9 overall.

Yeah.

We'll know A LOT more about their draft intentions after the first wave of FA signings.

Jonathan Bullard is my guy, if he is there.

Is he expected to be there?

I agree unless we get lucky with Joey Bosa.

No way of knowing at this point.

Now time for the other question: Would you want Dave Caldwell to trade out of 38 in either direction?

Darron Lee, Noah Spence, or Cody Whitehair would be the first round talents I hope fall to our pick the most as of right now.

Noah Spence could fall to the second round for off-field reasons, but that is exactly why I don't want him.

I hate being part of a three-team rotation. Having the #36 pick would have increased our chances of picking a "fell out of the first round" player.
