Agreed. This defense will take atleast two offseasons to fix. The offense is going to have to take it to the next level for us to become playoff contendera, and the defense will have to become top 20.

Players may not be as willing to come here if they think the coaching situation could change, and having a coach in the final year of his contract would certainly be reason for second thought.


Agree or not, giving Bradley a 1 year extension doesn't prevent him from being fired if he doesn't deliver in 2016. Nothing has changed about that. If the team isn't competing for a playoff spot and the division next year, Gus is going to take the fall.

Agreed. In fact Caldwell said as much in the press release.

So what you're saying is blame it on Dave, not Gus. Dave is the one who let go any player with any significant talent that first year. Right when Dave came on board, any player we had that had any age to them was let go. He stripped this roster and made it as bad as possible.


5 year plan is laughable to me. A 5 year plan to a GM is a 5 year plan of job security. I feel like Dave is playing this perfectly.

They came in building up a bad 2-14 team. Also I hate constantly talking about this but who were this difference makers David let go of? I was aware of him cutting Charles Woodson and Von Miller caliber players. He let a few guys go who would have no impact on the win total what so ever. Brandon Marshall and Daryl Smith would have not carried this team to the playoffs like Keuchley and Davis Jr. Just stop

Nobody is saying they're all dummies.  I'm not even saying I agree with the logic.  I'm simply saying THAT is the logic they used to explain the extension.  To be fair, for some players, if all things are equal and it comes down to picking a team in free agency, it very well could come down to who is coaching it.  Gus is still seen as a player's coach, so when they look at their options, he may actually be the best one available.  It will have nothing to do with his past struggles.  It'll be about who a high priced free agent wants to play for.

 

You can tow the company line as hard as you want but in the end all Free agents care about is money, not if Gus will be my coach next season.

 

No, that's not all they care about, but I can understand why you'd think so.  Thinking beyond the base instinct isn't in your DNA.

 

This will fall on deaf ears. People seem to think Jacksonville has the same allure as New York of Philly. In reality we are a town that has huge growth potential but that's it. The only way to really build this franchise is to create stability and build through the draft. FA is good because we have the money to over pay anyone we want but the truth is the draft is gonna be our bread and butter and that takes time.



See teams like the 9ers can suck for the next 8 years and not bat an eye because they know they have a stable fan base, ownership and will acquire a ton of great players in the process to make another run. Unfortunately our franchise is not old enough to have endured such hardships so we have not been exposed to the Tim Ratays and Joey Harringtons of the world (although Blaine was really close).


I just laughed when I heard this because I knew everyone on this board would react just like this. It's still funny. I'm sorry we aren't a once in a generation power house like the Pats but that is just not the norm. Somebody stated that the last 13 out of 15 Super Bowls featured Manning, Brady or Big Ben. If that does tell you that there are tons of team waiting at home every year then I don't know what to say.




This team is improving and the arrow is pointing up wether people want to see it our not. Instead for throwing hissy fits when the team doesn't do something you like why not support them and try to understand the big picture? Look at it from a larger scope. I think most would rather be right than to actually see the team succeed. And guess what if in ample enough time we don't continue to see improvement then will we gut the front office and build it over again.

You know I'm hoping for some winning to eliminate the fan vs fan arguments.  I'm starting to set my expectations for 2016 and I am using a wait and see approach overall but I'm dissatisfied as a fan.  When you think about it 31 of 32 teams are disappointed every year.

Almost anybody available is most likely better. Gus is amongst the worst coaches of all time in terms of wins and losses.

He went 5-11 with a rather ho hum roster. We have 75 mil and a GM determined to fix the defense. Things are on the up and up.

They have confidence in their plan. Mr Khan, Caldwell, have stated this publicly many times. I don't understand how anyone could not know this.

 

Not to mention that every player that has come into contact with Bradley have said that they believe in him and would run through walls for him. Their effort through a tough couple of years have certainly shown that they do not quit on him.

He wouldn't stay for the vet minimum and I don't think much more than that was in the offering. I wish he'd stayed too, but I understand Caldwell's position on a 31 year old linebacker coming off a season ending injury.
