Todd Wash Promoted to Defensive Coordinator

Quote:Well, at least you've still got your built in excuse to whine about the coaching then. Thank goodness.
Lol you love that word whine. Whining about whiners.... Classic.

It's not an excuse if it's true. Maybe Wash will be a very good coach. Maybe not. I feel like good coaches get the most out of their talent. They do the most with the least. Having stars on defense that play well doesn't make you a good coach.

Quote:On replacing Wash, how about the DL coach from Missouri? They seem to have an over productive pass rusher every year.
A good idea.

They produce the long lean pass rushers like Aldon Smith, and the big bodied DT types in Sheldon Richardson.

I wonder if he would take a similar position here.

Not knocking you, but I read sentiments like this all the time.

Care to cite examples?

Marinelli 2 years ago with the Cowboys. Redskins this year. Bears were average this year and they gave away all their players.

We weren't asking the defense to be great this year. Just average.

Sure looks like all the top defenses in the nfl are doing it this way. Seattle, Carolina, Denver, Arizona, etc. are getting their results not because of having talent, but because of the amazing coaches that they have...

Like come on dude. Coaching has a big part in things, but they can't make miracles with players that just aren't talented enough/over the hill.

Again... Didn't need the defense to be great. Just average. And the coaches here couldn't do that.

Wash might be able to turn this whole defense around. But when was the last time a defense or offense was this bad and then they hired a guy from that same staff?

When you have no pass rush due to a massive bust and an over the hill end is what you have as your main pass rushers you are bound to fail. Pass rush is the most important part of a defense. You can't make miracles when you get literally no rush. Why do you think we were so god awful on 3rd down?

I wanted someone from the outside too, but I think this is more of a rare case of having someone that really, should get a shot at DC. Just hard to stomach it now since we were so bad and he was part of the ataff, although it really, had no reason to do with Wash.

I totally agree with just about everything you said. Pass rush is definitely most important but sticking with the same scheme when you lose players to run it makes no sense. I think my gripe is mostly with Bradley.

Wash could be very good. Hopefully there is a drastic change next year.

Breeland, Knighton, Hatcher, Baker, and Preston Smith to name a few. Mason Foster was a mid season pickup but played lights out at inside linebacker when he got there. They have talent...

I was impressed with Wash during his conference. Shows a lot of confidence and toughness. Sounds like he didn't think very highly of Babich. I'm fine with it. Getting the right personnel is the most important, I'm sure Wash is capable.

Babich was the head of the D in my opinion. Hearing Poz at the end of the year stating how Gus really doesn't talk to the defense at all shows that. He may talk to Babich a bit on things and give his input, I mean he is the HC, but I feel like Wash is definitely going to put a very different spin on playcalling and aggressiveness.

Are you talking just defenses here, or teams overall?

If just defense, Washington finished 28th in yards.  Dallas 2 years ago (2013) finished last in yards.  Chicago finished 19th.  Yes, considering they had to change personnel from a 4-3 to a 3-4, that was a decent result.

I really am not. They don't need to be household names for them to be very good players. I caught a few redskins games and am buddies with a huge diehard skins fan. He'd attest to those guys too. Esp. Knighton, breeland, baker, and smith. Preston Smith had 8 sacks as a rookie this year.

Sorry. Last years Cowboys. The ones who went to the playoffs and lost to the Packers.

I live in MD so I've seen tons of Skins games.

Those dudes are good but they're not world beaters or stars by any means. They were very well coached.

Must've struck a nerve.

We'll see what kind of coach Wash is soon enough.  If the defense improves as most here hope it will, I have no doubt you'll give all the credit to the players added.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
