Johnny Manziel saga
|
Quote:bumped for yet another Manziel incident: This kid clearly has problems that need to be addressed. This is becoming one of those cautionary tales. The lack of maturity and composure smacks of a sort of affluenza. He's always been put on a pedestal. That was fine when he was younger. Now it's costing him potentially his career. We dodged a bullet there. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:Why? Pretty much why he was a 1st round pick

Quote:Why? He meant that Russell Wilson's playing style is very similar to what many expected Manziel to play like. With Russell being successful,, the thought was Manziel could succeed also. It was solely about playing styles, not off-the-field shenanigans. Quote:He meant that Russell Wilson's playing style is very similar to what many expected Manziel to play like. With Russell being successful,, the thought was Manziel could succeed also. If Johnny Manziel had Russell Wilson's football character, instead of having near the complete opposition, Manziel would have had a good chance to live up to his draft billing as a 1st Round pick. Instead, the Browns are yet again back to square 1 when it comes to the QB position. Until the Browns find a solution at QB, it's fair to say that they will continue to finish in the AFC North basement practically every season.
I think Manziel is coming face to face with what it truly means to be a professional in a competitive environment. More specifically, the need to prepare. He always struck me as a person who wanted to do everything by the seat of his pants, he just wanted to show up on gamedays, do a little ad lib on the field, get his teammates hyped up, make some plays, then go hit the town afterwards. What he is facing now is the necessity to do work ahead of time in order to succeed. When you don't do that, you meet failure. When you fail, things will really tend to fall apart on all kinds of levels.
I think he has a lot of maturing to do in order to be able to be a contributing member of a football team. And that's awfully tough to do in your 20s.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

His problem is obviously immaturity. He thinks there is nothing wrong with partying as long as he works hard in practices and games and gets better as a player. There is the oops: he can't improve as a player when he is out partying.
His latest behavior, or situation in the news once again, is going to push the Browns to definitely draft a QB with the 2nd pick. Manziel is driving himself out of a job.

Hue Jackson is already on record saying the Browns need to pick a QB at 2. Quote:His problem is obviously immaturity. Ben Roethlisberger disagrees. If Manziel was taking practices seriously and not getting into trouble with his partying, nobody would care. Many great NFL players partied hard in their day. Manziel had a problem serious enough to warrant rehab. Maturity is a problem, but it goes deeper than that. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:Ben Roethlisberger disagrees. Ben Roethsliberger did not party hard enough to need rehab. There is a line that Johnny Manziel crossed. Big Ben knew not to cross it.
Quote:I remember when a lot of people wanted him, and didn't want Bortles. Exactly. And it was obvious this wouldn't end well. Though I don't think anyone would have anticipated just how much of an off the field distraction he'd be.

Obviously the Browns did not know it. My guess is other teams did figure out Johnny Manziel has issues that they can't fix, including the Jaguars.
I don't think Manziel has any big issues other than the fact that he's immature and regards football as a past time not a serious profession.

Quote:Ben Roethsliberger did not party hard enough to need rehab Roethlisberger partied so hard there have been several incidents involving him that could easily be considered a crime Example 1, Example 2. Difference is, he knows how to prepare for a football game and so people are willing to look the other way. Now, by all accounts he has straightened himself out a bit, but don't think that Roethlisberger wasn't doing his own version of the Vegas tour back in the day. Again, Manziel's issue with the NFL isn't that he parties too hard, it's that he doesn't work hard enough. Amazing what putting a few 'W's on the board will do for your public image.

Haha I'm pretty sure Bortles parties hard also, but he's the man, cares about the game, and backs it up on the field.
Shock the world
Manziel was a marginal talent before he introduced boozing and not learning the offense into the equation. As a Browns fan, I hope they flush this turd as quickly as possible.
