Pay Da Man!

Quote:I would rather they let him prove it for one more year but I wouldn't be upset if they did give him a deal.  I love Hurns and hope he is a Jaguar for a long time.

He has already proven it and has not reached his ceiling yet. Pay the man Dave!

I know. He found a gem in free agency. Now 31 GMs have to be wondering why they did not draft him.

I hope he gets paid sooner than later.

Me too. We can't let him get away after next season.

Good thing we have enough money to pay him and still sign expensive free agents for the defense.

Quote:The fan favorite, ever-reliable, totally professional in every way Allen Hurns was an undrafted free agent, and therefore, unlike his teammates who were drafted in the same offseason, he can get a contract extension now.

It would be real nice to go ahead and do it.   It would show the world that we take care of guys who outplay their draft status.

It might even make some of this offseason's undrafted free agents want to sign with us, since we would then have a track record of doing right by these guys.
I think Hurns deserves the extension he played thru injuries and did a good job.

"Good job" is an understatement.

Who on the team should be awarded a richer contract?

My Picks

Allen Hurns

Telvin Smith

Brandon Linder(even missing most of last season)

Blake Borltes (in a year or two it could be much more expensive to lock him up)

Allen Robinson (quickly becoming a superstar)

That's fine and all, but you can't negotiate/sign new contracts before the 3rd year for drafted players.

The rest must wait for contracts to come up.

Newton signed after his 4th season, Tannehill after his 3rd.  I wonder why Cam or Carolina waited until after his 4th??

Smarter for Carolina to wait. Saves them cap space while having no risk of losing their player.

With drafted players, after year 3, teams have a 3 month window to either extend, play out the 4th, or exercise the 5th year option. The 5th year option pays the average of the top 10 of the position though so in an Andrew Luck case where they expected him to be top dollar, it's cheaper to use the option.

Hurns is the only one that deserves a contract right now that can get one.

None to soon. At the end of this year they can think about it
