NFL.com 4 round mock draft

#41

Quote:I like Cann at center. This is one of the deepest defensive drafts at our needs in recent memory. Let's focus our picks on getting this defense set for the next decade. Sign Osemele in FA slide Cann over and lets roll with a proven veteran line for once if they decide to let Wiz walk.

Would be the most ideal scenario. We would be totally set assuming Cann is proficient at playing center. It did work out very well with Meester tho. I believe he started as a guard and slid over at some point early to center. Would love history to repeat

I only remember Brad Meester playing at center. Was he a guard only one season?

He was a guard for his first couple of seasons. Left guard I believe. They moved him to center and the rest is history!

Why do you want him?

He's just one of those guys who, for lack of a better term, plays like his hair is on fire. He will always get to the ball and make tackles.

The four-round mock has Kentrell Brothers being selected at #50 to the Falcons. I assume the combine and pro days will change that.

I don't have a problem with this draft. Remember some of the Jags needs are going to be filled in Free Agency. Most likely they get a DE and a Safety. However whoever they sign at DE will also be helped by Marks and Fowler coming back from injury. The Jags even if they sign a DB in FA, need to draft someone else. However if both Joey Bosa and Jalen Ramsey are available at 5, that choice would be tough. For the rest of the draft, the Jags need help at center, back up TE, and OLB. So I don't have a problem with picks 2-4.

Round 2 is way too high to draft a center. Regardless of who we get in free agency, that pick needs to be a defensive player. It would make a lot more sense to get the center in Round 3.

Jags picks:

Round 1: Jalen Ramsey, FS, Florida State

Round 2: Ryan Kelly, C, Alabama

Round 3: Austin Hooper, TE, Stanford

Round 4: Eric Striker, OLB, Oklahoma

Outside of Ramsey and Striker I don't really care for this mock. A center in the 2nd? A TE? I would've taken either Emmanuel Ogbah or Shilique Calhoun in the 2nd and Miles Killebrew, Jalen Mills, Deion Jones or Carl Nassib in the 3rd.
eww horrible draft

mine would be

1st DE Bosa

2nd DL Robert Nkemdiche - why too good to pass up in the 2nd

3rd FS Jalen Mills

4th John Theus, OT, Georgia

That would be cool. Though - I'm a little leary of Theus after reading this:

Quote:5. John Theus, OT, Georgia: Starting four years in the SEC theoretically prepared Theus for the speed and power he'd face this week at the Senior Bowl but his athletic limitations were exposed a bit this week, making it likely that he'll need to switch back to right tackle in the NFL. The nearly 6-7, 317-pound Theus simply doesn't have ideal fluidity to handle speed rushers and he can get walked into the backfield by bull rushers when he allows his pad level to rise.

Rob Rang ^

I might look for C/G depth and/or competition in round 4. There also may be a couple of CB candidates there of interest. (Canady, DJ White, Eric Murray)

Theus is definitely going to be a RT in the NFL. I would take a mid-round flyer on him to groom behind Parnell for a few years.

There wouldn't be anything wrong with Kelly or Whitehair in the 2nd.

Wow... Didn't realize Robert fell that far. There is no way in the world he falls that far.

This mock is awful.

Well, they certainly need better depth than Sam Young. - but I don't know if he's the guy to do it.

Also - I wonder how that whole "Bowanko to tackle" project is going?

He seems like the only decent depth along the line depending on what they do with Beadles (restructure?) - and how strong they feel about their "futures/PS" guys Reed and Edwards.

Sam Young was surprisingly decent as Luke Joeckel's replacement in 2015. I know who he had to block in Houston, but come on, it looked like he was not even trying to block J.J. Watt. He needs to stay on the left side if we keep him.

That leaves us with a need at RT. Jermey Parnell needs a backup who specializes in the position.

Sam Young should not be on this team next year. Joeckel will be the starter and Josh Wells will be his backup, which leaves Young as the backup RT. I would much rather the Jags draft a mid-late round guy to groom behind Parnell, then to keep Sam Young around.

That is why I said IF we keep Sam Young. Obviously he should be cut.

His contract is up, so you can't cut him.

Why are you talking about Sam Young in the college thread? Sam young is on the Jaguars and should be discussed in that forum.

See how annoying that is?
