Saw George Thorogood at the Cole Field House in College Park MD. High energy show, so high they had to cut the power to the stage to get him off it.

 

I saw (and met) him in Germany last summer. At 65 he was still rockin' strong - as were his band's original members.

 

Little known fact: George was a pro-scouted baseball player that played in a New England area semi-pro league.

For years, George Thorogood would suspend touring during the summer so he could play semi-pro baseball. He would do one concert on July 4th in a theater in Newark, Delaware. I caught one of those shows in 1980, and he and his band rocked the joint.

 

As for the thread topic, the closest thing to a religious experience I've had at a concert was Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers at the Florida Theater in the mid-90s. Ziggy, along with 2 brothers and a sister, channeled father Bob in a way that was more than just covering his songs. It was like his, and his family's, music is what Bob's would have evolved into had he lived longer.

I've seen a lot of good shows, but probably the coolest experience was seeing Paul McCartney here in Jax last year. I bought tickets for the wife and I and they were definitely nosebleed seats (very top row). Well with time to kill before the show, we left our seat and started walking around and a lady stopped us randomly and gave us seat upgrades. The tickets see gave us were for front row, center stage.

 

We literally went from being as far from McCartney as you could get, to 10 feet away from him lol.

Saw him on Musicology, his last major tour.


Every single artist in the band got their own solo. Not just a measure or two, but a real solo. And they were good. REALLY good.


INXS had incredible energy and crowd connection.


Genesis was just a fantastic show all the way around.


Michael Buble was fantastic, a show that isn't a bore for the guys (like I thought it might be.)


James Taylor takes you to a different time and place.


Metallica usually does a good job of bringing and feeding the energy no matter how bad Lars plays.

Prince puts on one hell of a show.

Anyways, best shows I've seen would probably be ..

 

 - Mastodon, Saw them with Gojira in Orlando a little over a year ago and it was crazy good.

 - Godsmack, They always put on a good show, and being a drummer myself, seeing Sully and Shannon with the drum duel is always killer.

 - Rob Zombie, Dude always has tons of energy, and last time I saw him they played almost an entire White Zombie set, was epic.

 - Paul McCartney, saw him in Jax in 2014, and damn, for a dude that was like 71-72 years old he still put on an amazing show. Totally honored that I got to see one of the greatest musicians to ever live in person.

 

Really want to see..

 

 - Tool/Primus, damn it. Couldn't get tickets and I had to work, really [BAD WORD REMOVED] off about that whole situation, ugh..

 - Faith No More, Hope they come somewhere near here soon, I missed them in Atlanta last year..

 - Ghost, coming to Rockville, I should be able to make it to that, I've heard they put on awesome shows, can't wait.

Did his band destroy the place?

Well.... they rocked on stage as much as their artificial hips would allow, but as far as leaving a trail of destruction...

 

I did hear George tersely tell his manager to make a "do not disturb" sign for his green room  after an unwanted interview  -  and the drummer was definitely muttering under his breath a bit regarding the quality of the cold cuts platter in hospitality. 

 

Ohhhh, yeah - "The Destroyers."
