Re-sign Henne?
|
So.. even though he has been consistently below average, since he knows the players and the system, we should resign him instead of developing a back up who may be.. I don't know.. competent. Favre had Brunell, Kurt Warner and Aaron Rodgers as backups. I prefer something like that.
Only a chump boos the home team!

If he hadn't smoked and drank his way out of the league, we probably wouldn't have drafted A-Rob or given Hurns such a big role. Instead, we'd be hamstrung waiting for Blackmon to come back from his latest DUI suspension.

That kinda luck doesn't happen often.
Brunell and Warner were both unknowns who were developed. Rodgers was drafted as the replacement, but benefited from having time to develop as a back up. Other teams have been able to do this. Henne could have Tom House sleeping on a cot next to his locker every day. He ain't getting a lick better.

Quote:Would you think that ARob is at/above the level that Blackmon was at then? I would definitely say "yes". No... ARob's hands and route running are as good, but Blackmon was more dynamic with the ball in his hands.

I believe -and I understand my statement is one of faith- that once the O-line gets tight, and Henne is put in, he would be stellar. Granted it is nice we have the young man Bortles to shine a bit and get behind, but Henne can be the pro behind the scenes. And also it would provide good depth for Bortles if he got injured- or likewise give Bortles the motivation to be more reckless, knowing that henne can back him up while he recovers.

Let's pump the brakes. Serviceable? That's more like it. If the line is fixed, and we can develop a legit running game, I think we could absorb the hit if Bortles were to miss a game or two. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.
RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.
Resign Henne if you can get him at close to the vet minimum. He knows the system, he's a veteran and even though he's a bit limited athletically, he should be able to fill in for a few games in Blake went down for some reason. Especially given the strides the offense has made recently. Now if somebody came along who was A) better on the field, B ) just as willing to play a backup role, and C) would come at a similar cost, then by all means. I'm not going to hold my breath. Why pay big bucks for a backup who might whine about not starting?
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

There are pleny of qbs hitting free agency who are better.

It stands to reason that any backup significantly better (not sure there's anyone that falls into that category this year) will demand a significantly higher salary.

This thread title makes my stomach gurgle. Can't this thread just die to the next page?
Edit: And yes, I realized I bumped it by responding, but starting in 3, 2, 1... nobody else respond. OK, GO!
People that are so judgemental about professional athletes make me laugh. LOL

Go ahead and sign him. I don't care who are backup QB is right now.
If it gets to the point where that guy is playing multiple games/long periods of the season...it isn't likely going to matter. Quote:Go ahead and sign him. I don't care who are backup QB is right now. There are actually a few qbs out there that could take over a game and win should Blake go down. We really shouldn't take this attitude just because we know Henne won't do that.

If Blake is done for more than a game or two this team is done. The roster is not good enough to win multiple games with a backup level QB barring major luck. There are actually some borderline starters hitting free agency. Considering the Jaguars need to spend quite a bit to reach the cap floor, we could pay up for a quality backup than can definitely win games should Blake go down or struggle. Imagine for instance if we had Sam Bradford sitting in the wings when Blake looks over his shoulder.

Sign Henne. If you are on your backup for anything more than a game or 2 your season is over.
Henne can play well enough to not lose a game. He is a great backup. I hope we can keep him around. Oh and I love his mustaches. They should make a poster of them.
