Jalen Ramsey

Quote:I go back and forth on whether Ramsey would do well as a FS in our role. I wonder if it would make sense to sign a FA FS like Gipson and Weddle and then still draft Ramsey to play CB.

Ramsey the size and length to be the perfect CB in Gus' scheme. I've watched clips of Ramsey he seems to really excel when pressing. We could also move him around in Nickel sets like FSU did. Just seems to me he plays better when near the LOS, and then our FA FS could focus on the centerfielder role.

A pass rush of say Fowler, Vernon, Odrik, Marks, and our 2nd rounder with a secondary of Ramsey, House, Gipson, Cyp/Sample, and Colvin could do wonders for our D especially on 3rd down.
Great post...totally agree

I would still draft Ramsey...but as a corner/hybrid DB

I would stay away from Weddle because imo he isn't enough of a ball hawk

Quote:Does he just get his hands on the football or force turnovers? I want to see interceptions.
So do I...Reggie Nelson would be perfect for what the Jags need as a FS. But I do like Ramsey as a slot corner...more than I like Colvin

Quote:Signing Gipson or Weddle in free agency would increase the probability of picking a pass rusher at 5 instead of a defensive back. I would only draft a CB in the first round if we trade down.
It could

But the only two pass rushers I would be interested in at #5 would be Bosa and Spence and I doubt Bosa will be available

Weddle would at least give us a smart vet to QB the secondary.

True enough

But I would like to aim higher and Nelson also should make a nice QB for the secondary

He clearly is no longer the player he was when first drafted by the Jags

Quote:This is the first time I have seen the names Chris Hope and Gibril Wilson. That would not be the case if they were big names.

That's because you know nothing about football.

Wilson was, at the very least, decent with the Giants. Hope was above average and a hard hitter.

I am a fan, not a cheerleader.

you say you would stay away frm Weddle because he isnt a ball hawk! Neither is Ramsey. Weddle is a proven vet that imo would be better for this team with the addition of a Jack, Hargreaves, or Bosa. Im hoping we can get Weddle, dont want Gipson

So, just to recap then...  Why would Ramsey not be a very good FS in the NFL?

I think he could be a good FS, but not in our scheme. Most of his best plays come near the LOS; here he would be playing single-high so it kind of lessens his impact.

He doesn't rush the passer

My word, the Ramsey love-fest over at BCC is getting out of hand. Alfie posted a Ramsey or bust article and even mentioned trading up for Ramsey. Ramsey is good but I don't see him as a can't miss prospect especially in our scheme. As I have said in this thread, I like Ramsey here more as a CB then I would as a FS.

Ramsey is going to bring things to this defense that you cant put on a measuring stick

Please explain, cause I don't see it on tape..

Besides that game against Miami last year, he doesn't really stand out at all.

Well let me rephrase. Athletically he stands out, I just don't see a lot of plays being made. We need a gamed changer on defense. Best available defensive lineman.

Nobody has any reason to believe I know nothing about football.

Is this guy in the draft or a free agent or what? This new format is very confusing

Draft prospect.

You'll find him in the top five on many "big boards."  Like this one where he's ranked the third best prospect:

I think we are discussing bringing him in as a FA after his rookie contract expires. We should have a good feel of him as a prospect by then.

No way in hell Ramsey is the third overall best prospect.
