US Marshals arresting people for not paying their federal student loans

Believe it or not, the US Marshals Service in Houston is arresting people for not paying their outstanding federal <span><span style="font-weight:normal;font-size:100%;color:rgb(0,153,0);background-color:transparent;">student loans[Image: icon1.png]</span></span>.

Paul Aker says he was arrested at his home last week for a $1500 federal <a class="" href='http://www.fox26houston.com/news/local-news/92232732-story#'><span style="font-weight:normal;font-size:100%;color:rgb(0,153,0);background-color:transparent;">student loan[Image: icon1.png]</span></a> he received in 1987.

US Marshals in tactical gear banging on your door for a $1,500 student loan?  No overkill there, especially when these law enforcement agents are actually doing collection calls for a private debt collector for loans that are almost 30 years old.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Won't be long, they'll no knock the wrong house and someone will get a few of them.

Then it will be the crazy, bad loan having, gun owners fault.

And they'll do time for that as well as the $1500.

A liiiiiittle bit more information has come to light on this story.

Turns out, the man refused to answer a court summons. Then, when they came to get him, he locked himself in his house and told the marshals to go away since he had a gun.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

He obviously didn't use his student loan money to take a class in Persuasive Argument.

I figured there had to be more to the story. If they start arresting people late on student loans a good 30% of the population would be locked up right now.

That definitely sheds a different light on the story.  The local station, and the local politician who wanted to race to get in front of a camera have some serious egg on their faces right now.

As do those people who were so quick to throw judgement on the situation.

It's sad how it seems like more and more media outlets try to sensationalize a story more along the lines of fearmongering rather than digging for all of the facts.

Apparently they are planning on 1200-1500 arrests
