Trent Richardson to Colts For First Rounder

Quote:

Your GM should have known better, considering that the browns gave up picks to trade up and get him that they'd be so willing to part with him one year later should have sounded alarms in any decent GMs head.

The GM that drafted Richardson isn't the same GM that traded him.

So what? The team still had a massive investment in him.

The current regime was willing to give up on him so easy because they didn't draft him. THEY didn't have an investment in them. The last regime did.

If I bought a house from a guy that just put up a brand new garage, I inherit the investment of that new garage. I don't just tear the garage down because I wasn't the initial buyer.

That's a horrible analogy.  Nobody would buy a house and then tear down a brand new garage, unless they wanted to add on a room or something.

And the G.M. didn't buy this house/roster.. In a home analogy sense he works for the Home owner, he's more of architect hired to remodel the entire house and improve it's value... so he could change anything that he seems fit within his owner's budget.

Coltswarriors is right.  The new FO had no ties to him and it's not like they didn't get any compensation back for him, they got a first round pick (which is looking like highway robbery right now).  When a new G.M. and coach come to town, they're given a lot of rope to make personnel moves how they see fit and on how players fit their system.  If they deem Richardson as a player that doesn't fit their system or as a player they feel they could move for a first round pick in order to improve the talent level of the roster level (possibly giving them ammo to trade up and get a franchise QB) they can, because they have no obligations or ties to a player who was drafted by a previous FO and regime.  They didn't draft Richardson.. they have no ties to him at all.

You know a trade is bad when all your divisional opponents like the trade

Whether you want to label him a bust or not the fact remains he is being outplayed by Donald Brown who has the same line to run through. It isn't looking good.

That 1st rounder should be benched by now.

lolz

The funny thing is how some are still trying so hard to act like the trade still has a chance to work out and that its not a colossal bust.

If that was the Jags doing it at least I'd keep it real enough to admit that the trade was garbage.

<colts fan>

Richardson is just getting a reduced workload.  It's like what the Jags did with Maurice Jones-Drew when he came in.  Richardson still has next year to work out, and when things start clicking we're going to have both our QB of the future, and our RB of the future.  And all for 2 1st round picks.  That's just not the kind of thing you get so easily in the draft.  The trade was still good, and is still good.  Unlike some teams, we plan to keep our players for more than one year.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

It is a complete bust of a trade...  He was also a bust of a draft pick which is why the Browns were willing to cut their losses and move on when another team was foolish enough to trade for him.

In 406 career carries the guy only has 2 runs that went for more than 20 yards and his career long run is only 32 yards, the guy has no game breaking speed or ability to hit home runs.   You can pick up UDFAs off the NFL scrap heap that can knock that out of the park.  Heck, there's UDFA's sitting on their coach right now that the Colts could pick up who can put up better production and they wouldn't of had to trade a #1 pick for him.

I originally called the guy a rich man's Ron Dayne when the trade first came through.. I'm going to change that to a poor man's Ron Dayne
