Possibly the most physically gifted player ever at that position.

Too bad he was never able to be on a good team.

It must suck to be a Lions fan at times.  They've had two of the best players ever in Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson, and both retired with lots of gas left in the tank.

More players are starting to think of their health and getting out before they suffer permanent injuries.

A good article about Robert Smith, 10 years after his retirement.

Good for him, get out of the sport before it destroys you physically.

he was one of my favorite running backs of that era, never fumbled fast and had a penchant for explosive runs.  Basically everything I want in a running back.  Unless you luck into getting one of the few Tomlinson, Taylor, Bell, jones-drews of the world.

Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17
2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice
  • Engram at TE and the MJD clone Samaje Perine

<p class="">This time of year, we liberally toss around "rare" and "special" talking about guys' athleticism. Calvin Johnson was truly both.

Some guy @NYJ_NDN replied with this

The Lions are slowly imploding and will soon enter a dark timeline. They'll probably be the new loljags or lolraiders.

Look on the bright side. At least we aren't so bad we force guys into early retirement. We have that going for us, which is nice.

Can anyone tell me how good WRs come out of Ga Tech?

Because good wide receivers go into Ga Tech?

But really, at the time Calvin Johnson and Demarious Thomas were recruited, Chan Gailey, who is a respected NFL coach, was head coach of GT.

Absolute freak in his time. Much respect.

I kind of disagree about having a lot left in the tank.  Probably more than Peyton, but with less opportunity in that similarly shutting window.

I'm not sure many squeezed as much out of what little was left than Peyton.
