Quote:I guess I just expect the 3rd overall pick to be more than just rotated throughout - he should be on the field at all times.

I just don't see why we should spend a ton of money on a LEO when Fowler is supposed to be our LEO.  I'm not opposed to getting a good solid player, but I think to get Vernon we would have to offer something similar to what we offered Malik Jackson.

Do we want two guys at 15m+/year?

We could also draft another LEO in the draft later to rotate with Fowler.

Say there's a split like this:

LEO: Vernon 70%, Fowler 30%

DT: Miller 60%, Jones 20%, Fowler 20% (passing downs)

DT: Jackson 50%, Marks 50%

DE: Odrick 60%, Jackson 25%, Irvin 15%

Fowler is still playing on roughly half the snaps, but he could play some spot minutes at the OTTO too. Not to mention that he is coming off of an ACL tear and it may take him a while to get his feet under him. I'm a big fan of loading up on defensive linemen and having them constantly rotate in and out. It keeps them fresh throughout the game and can give you a big advantage as the game goes on and offensive linemen get tired.

Loving this emphasis on the DLine. Watching a great pass rush gets me so hyped.

Quote:If we get Bruce Irvin, anyone else think pursuing Vernon may be almost a little overkill?  I mean, where is everyone going to play?

Do we bench Dante Fowler if we sign Vernon?
Irvin would be OTTO first and the 3rd LEO behind Fowler and Vernon.

Nobody should expect us to over use Fowler, especially with him coming off ACL. Keep him in a heavy rotation his first season imo.

I think the scenario is that on passing downs it would be:  Vernon LDE - Jackson DT - Odrick DT - Fowler RDE and Irvin coming from OLB maybe.    THAT would definitely help whoever ends up starting in the secondary.

On other downs, don't know what they would do.  Somebody is bound to get hurt anyways.  It is the Jaguars, come on.

Not a fan on putting Marks on the bench on 3rd downs. Prior to his ACL, 3rd downs were his money down.

Give me a 4 down man alignment Odrick-Jackson-Marks-Fowler and Irvin blitzing from the OTTO.

It's a great addition

This seems to be a trend in the players we show interest in. Players that had good games against us always seem to pop up as players we are interested in.

Dammit.  I was getting worried, it was taking too long.  That sucks but I trust that Dave has a plan and knows what he's doing.  We need more help than Jackson though so they better be busy tomorrow.

Bummer...

I don't know, maybe the likelihood of getting Vernon increased and they opted to pursue him instead.

Yep, can't lean too hard on a rookie coming off a major injury.

Gotta give him help, by giving him a role... not at full time starting job.

He could sign for $150 million and $70 million in bonuses and it would be a great signing according to the national media but our signing of Jackson will be overpaying.
