Quote:@Rand_Getlin On JR Sweezy there are over half a dozen teams still in the mix for him. One intriguing team team to pay attention to here? The #Broncos.

     He fits the Broncos system.

Quote:But since then we used extensive draft capital for a RB with a very early 2nd rounder. Now on top of that we pay a backup/goalline RB top 10 money? Pretty exorbitant.

He's not a backup/goal line RB. He may get more carries than Yeldon.

Definitely plenty of resources in the RB position.   It seems like Dave Caldwell and Gus Bradley want to ensure that the Jags can run the ball when the opponent expects them to run and also further help open the passing game.

One benefit of the RB strategy is it should keep the Jags Offense on the field longer,  hence make the team's Defense more fresh.

5 years over 6 million per ? I don't feel good about that for a 28 year old running back. Hell no. No one can defend that.

And now that Irvin and Jenkins are gone, my free agency hype is over. At least we got one guy.

Yeldon gets 2/3's of the drives and Ivory gets the other 1/3 plus goal line. They compliment each other so well.

Take a look at the teams that made the final 4 last year and their RB situation. Denver- Hillman/Anderson Car- Stewart/Tolbert/Fozzy Ari- Johnson/Ellington/CJ NE- White/Blount/plethora of others

Yeldon will still get the majority of the carries I think but Ivory will come in like a closer throwing 100 mph.

You're a loser. Feel free to stay off the board if we sign Vernon and Sean Smith.

Considering the Jags vast salary cap resources and the team's ability to front load the contract,   I definitely can understand and respect the strategy.

Wasn't Ivory something like the league's 3rd leading rusher?

Behind AP and Dougie Doug.....

Again with the money thing. I expect the amount of pissing and moaning to be at an all time high today.

Quote:  My guess is most UFAs that sign a 5 year contract don't see the entire contract.   That much more at the RB position.   Because of Chris Ivory's running style,  he probably won't see the entire contract.   But in the next 3 years or so,  he should give the team a differential power running dimension.

My guess is it will be similar to what we have seen from Caldwell. Front loaded with little to no guaranteed money after year two or three.

We've said it on this board and Dan Hicken said it on the radio this morning.

People complain the Jaguars never spend money. The Jaguars spend money and people complain they spent too much money.

In another thread,  I mentioned something you touched on here as I can easily envision Chris Ivory being a great fit for a 4 minute Offense when the Jags are trying to protect a lead.

With very few exceptions,  at least 2 RBs are needed to play significant roles over the course of a game.    The illustrations you gave clearly reinforce this.

He led the AFC in rushing last season. That's a lot of goaline carries.

Ivory is a great addition. Personally I would have rather had Dough Martin or Forte, but adding Ivory instantly gives our running game a booster shot. Having taken Yeldon with our second pick last year, I didn't think the Jags would pick up a running back this year that would take the number 1 spot, such as Martin. But Ivory is a great back, and may even have a chance to become the number 1.

You're a loser if you are whining and complaining about FA when it has just begun and the Jags aren't even close to being done. If it was done, and all we got was Malik Jackson, then you got a legit complaint.

Complaining at the start of FA is like watching the opening credits of a movie and then you're all like "Man I was excited for this movie but not after these opening credits.... this sucks."

That certainly makes sense.  The Jags excellent salary cap situation gives the organization the luxury of putting these type of contracts together.
