Sign Beachum today- package Joeckel and a late round to Seattle for Cliff Avril

#21

I'm hopeful as always but Seattle has a LT need as well as some other teams. Joeckel isn't great but he's an average LT. Not sure we can guarantee him anything and that will make it things difficult as most others have stated.

He'd be a very good addition...but IDK.

Sometimes all I can do is shake my head in disbelief at some of the topics thrown around on here.

Joeckel isn't going anywhere this season and you don't just run off average - above average young LT.

Oh but I forget, the guy who's coming off an ACL injury and who's still a FA, is our savior at LT, am I right?

Not that it matters but Avril is from Green Cove Springs.

The legit only reason he's an FA is because of the injury. He has been a top end pass blocker and average to above average in the run game and is 26 years old. He wants to be guaranteed a starting spot at LT and that's hard to promise when he's coming off an ACL. The guy is a very solid LT and has a chance to be a long term fixture at LT.

I'm with you on not handing him the job, but he'd be a great signing...if he doesn't come here it isn't the end of the world but he'd definitely help the Offensive Line a lot whether that's as a starter at LT, elsewhere, or a backup.

I'm well aware he was a very solid player pre injury, but that's the whole point, he's got a bum leg right now. I'd love the signing, it would push Joeckel and we'd finally get to see if he'll step up from some competition. Even knowing that competition is in the building.

What's nonsense is people thinking Beachum is going to come in here and take over from day one. He may not even be ready to go at the start of the season, but people are just so ready to get rid of Joeckel. I can guarantee you that Joeckel wouldn't be on the waiver wire for very long if we cut him.

At the end of the day, Joeckel's a young, healthy, average LT. He isn't going anywhere this season, no matter how many fans think he should.

Could you imagine the amount of tears that would be flying, if Caldwell signed Beachum, shipped off Joeckel for peanuts and Beachum wasn't ready for week 1? What if he has a set back? Then we'd be trotting out some guy who has no business being the starting LT right now. I'd be willing to bet people wouldn't be so happy about getting rid of Joeckel then. People would then be screaming at Caldwell for not having a backup behind Beachum.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm not a Joeckel basher. He had a decent year last year but his last game he was absolutely awful and got beat time and time again and that seems to be the lasting taste in peoples mouth regarding him. He's an average LT with upside and still very young, younger than AJ Cann who was a rookie this past year.

Now, Joeckel wouldn't get cut regardless, but Beachum is talented and can be a top 10 LT in this league. He showed that honestly, and he'd be a great addition. He likely wouldn't be ready right when the season began unless we rushed him or he had some incredible recovery. There's no reason to rush him if we were to sign him.

All I'm saying is that when you aren't sold on your LT being the long term fixture, if you have a chance to get a nice upside LT, especially in FA, that is very young and could be a building block, you jump on the opportunity.

He has a lot of suitors so we definitely aren't the shoe in, but I'd be pretty happy to see this signing. If not the pressure on Joeckel is less as far as a competition stand point and our future at the position is less clear because although Joeckel is ok, he definitely does need to step up. You can't have games like he did in that last game. I don't think he should be judged just on that game like most are, but he definitely can't have that again next year or I hope we look elsewhere. Bortles is way to valuable to have someone giving others shot after shot on our franchise guy.

I'm not a Joeckel basher, or a Joeckel praiser. Matter of fact, I wanted Ansah the most in that 2013 draft, but it is, what it is.

Joeckel hasn't been great by any means, but he hasn't been as god awful as people try and make him out to be. Now that Branch is gone and Alualu is looking more and more like the odd man out on the DL. The board just needs somebody new to poke their forks at. Joeckel is the next man up it looks like.

He wasn't the only player to stink it up in that last game, or the last 2-3 games. It looked a whole lot like players packed it in and were ready for the season to end, especially in that final game. I completely agree though, he can't be having games like he did week 17.

I said I'd love the signing of Beachum and hope we can land him. I just think people really need to temper some of the expectations he might bring with him.

Would be a smart move.. Were gonna get either bosa or Myles jack.. I'm not worried about pass rush at this point.. With fowler Jackson miller marks odrick.. Plus skits at Leo sometimes could help.. But like I said if jack is there u take him over bosa..

But back to the trade.. We need a guy like cliff avril to mentor the younger guys.. If we could somehow pull this off.. Our defense is gonna be scary..

The Beachum contract tells me they're not trading Joeckel.   It's a one-and-done, prove-it type of deal, with a $10 million roster bonus due next offseason.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/149816...le-jaguars

"Beachum will earn $4.5 million in the first year and can earn up to $6 million if he reaches his incentives, the source told Schefter.

"Beachum is likely to be asked to restructure the second year of the contract or be released next year, as the source told Schefter that Beachum has a $10 million roster bonus that he would have to be great to achieve."
