Hypothetical Queston - NCAA Tourney - 1 and done OR NIT Champ
|
Very Hypothetical Question -- Just Because.....
As a Fan of UF or FSU and assuming this does not impact your regular season record .... ** Would you rather get into the NCAA Tourney and lose in Round 1 to Florida Gulf Coast or would you rather win the NIT Championship by beating a highly recognizable team like Ohio State in the finals? ** I'm thinking as a fan, one just wants their team to make the NCAA Tourney but as a Senior player on a team (who already played in the NCAA Tourney), you may want to go out with a victory and win the NIT Championship. Thoughts as a fan ??? Thoughts assuming you're a Senior player on the team (and assuming you already played in the NCAA Tourney) ?? We show less advertisements to registered users. If I was in that situation, the NIT option probably would be more appealing. Having the experience of winning a tournament in Madison Square Garden to close out your College Basketball eligibility, after previously experiencing the NCAA Tournament, would be a good way ( relatively speaking ) to move on to the next part of your life.

I kind of agree. As a player, you get to play for an extra month and go out with a 5 game winning streak. As a fan, I'm almost on the other end of the spectrum that's why I threw in a UF/FSU loss to Florida Gulf Coast. Does that disappointment totally spoil the concept to making the NCAA Tourney? As a fan, I probably would choose going to the NCAA Tournament even if it's a one and done. Taking pride in your favorite team getting to the NCAA Tournament seems to have more appeal than winning the NIT from a fan perspective. Especially, when looking back at the season after the disappointment of the first round loss dissipates. A possible exception is if you like going to games of your favorite college basketball team and have the opportunity of going to the final 2 games in MSG.
I started thinking about Baylor fan. 1 and done again. Still, I'm with you in a sense that they still may prefer that then an NIT Championship (once they get over the sting of the loss to Yale)

It all depends on the state of the program. As a young team with a first year coach, and only one senior who really contributes I am just happy with any postseason where the new coach can keep working on his style of play.

Winning the NIT means you are the best of the average teams. Getting to the NCAA tournament means you are amongst the best in the country.
It also helps in recruiting to be an NCAA tournament team. Regards....................the Chiefjag |
