2016 First Round Pick
|
Trade scenarios are always fun, so here is another...
The Jets want to grab a QB and move up from Pick 20, so they have to sweep the Jags off their feet Jags trade Pick 5 and Jared Odrick to the Jets for Picks 20 (Rd 1), 51 (Rd 2) a 2017 Rd 2 selection and Muhammed Wilkerson, who replaces Odrick at the 5 Tech position. Rd 1(20): Noah Spence - DE - Eastern Kentucky - Jags grab the best pure pass rusher in the draft to team with Dante Fowler Jr at the Leo position Jags trade Picks 38 (Rd 2) and 103 (Rd 4) to Carolina for Pick 30 in Rd 1 Rd 1(30): Kevin Dodd - DE - Clemson - Dodd falls a bit in Rd 1 and the Jags jump up to grab him late in Rd 1 to provide another pass rusher Rd 2(51): Artie Burns - CB - Miami - Jags grab a CB to groom and add depth to the secondary Rd 3(69): Joshua Perry - Otto Lb - Ohio State - Jags draft their starting Otto LB. Rd 5(146): DeAndre Houston-Carson - FS - William & Mary - backup FS Rd 6(181): Darrell Greene - OG - San Diego State - Road grader in the run game Rd 6(201): Nick Kwiatkoski - MLB - West Virginia - backup MLB - a lot like a Danny Trevathan Rd 7(226): Ejiro Ederaine - WLB - Fresno State - backup WLB Jags come out the draft with three new pass rushers in Muhammed Wilkerson, Noah Spence and Kevin Dodd, and quality depth at LB, CB, FS and OG We show less advertisements to registered users. Top 4 of:
1. Titans- Tunsil 2. Browns- Wentz/Goff 3. Chargers- Ramsey 4. Cowboys- Jack (they steal our guy) That leaves us with: 1. Joey Bosa DE Ohio St- All around d-end that will make us better. Him and Fowler bending the edge with Marks and Jackson inside, oh my. Our d-line will look pretty scary with Fowler, Bosa, Marks, Jackson, Miller, Oldrick, Davis. There's quality, depth, and versatility in there. 2. Ryan Kelly OC Bama- There is a gaping hole in the middle of our o-line. Kelly gives us an instant starter and allows Linder to play his natural position of guard. Linder, Kelly, and Cann are 10 year starters in the league 3. Joshua Perry LB Ohio State- Back to defense. He upgrades the LB corps and can play both OTTO and middle. 4. Harlan Miller CB Southeastern Louisiana- Small school prospect with lots of upside. With Prince's injury history and his 1-year deal, we need an insurance policy at CB. 5. Denver Kirkland OG/OT Arkansas- Can play 4 positions on the line and will provide quality depth. Powerful blocker. 6. Deon Bush SS Miami- Athletic and physical player with injury problems. He played in a putrid scheme at Miami so he's a bit of unknown. When he was on the field at Miami, he stood out. His skill set fits an in the box type safety. Cyp is most likely gone after this year and Sample hasn't shown enough yet. Potential steal. 6. Curt Maggitt OLB Tennessee- The more I read about him, the more I like. High character guy with non-stop motor who has been devastated by injuries. Very productive at Tennessee when he was on the field at both SAM and Mike. 7. LeShaun Sims CB Southern Utah- Good size and speed. Physical. May need a year on the practice squad but if McCray and Gratz move on after this year, Sims can be the #4/#5 CB. This draft solidifies our O-line and adds more players for a defense that needs upgrades.
As crazy as this might sound, the question remains...
If Denver offered Von Miller for Pick 5 and a chance to take their Franchise QB and unload a hugh contract should the Jags take such a deal? Big money for the Von Miller contract - highest paid Defensive player in league - that will be his contract
Quote:As crazy as this might sound, the question remains... Absolutely. We were going to dish out a huge sum of money for Vernon so I don't think that would be an issue. Miller is only 26 and the best pass rusher in the game. Completely changes the defense. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
No doubt that Von Miller deserves the contract.
Jags get Miller for Pick 5, the Broncos get a Franchise QB and still have all their picks. No way is this deal offered to San Diego The Cowboys might take this deal Quote:No doubt that Von Miller deserves the contract.I'd give up pick 5 in a heartbeat for Miller but that's not going to happen. If Trent Richardson can get a 1st rounder (granted the #5 is a higher pick than what Colts gave) then Denver is going to want much more than just a first round pick. Probably multiple first rounders.
In WalterFootball latest 5 Rd mock draft these players are available for the Jags to select:
Rd 1(5) Myles Jack - MLB - UCLA - One in a generation MLB propsect Rd 2(38): Noah Spence - DE (Leo) - Eastern Kentucky - Best Pure Pass Rusher in Draft Rd 3(69): Joshua Perry - Otto/SLB - Ohio State - Otto position solved Rd 4(103): Artie Burns - CB - Miami - raw CB with all the tools but could benefit from sitting behind Prince Rd 5(146): DeAndre Houston-Carson - FS - William & Mary - backup FS We could only dream of such a draft haul! Although... I don't think Artie Burns makes it to the 3rd round, much less the 4th. I think someone takes a chance on Spence at the bottom of round 1. But if it shakes out like this... I'd be ecstatic.
Let's assume that Jacksonville drafts Myles Jack in the 1st. What should be our best bet for obtaining another edge rusher?
A.) Trade back into the 1st for Noah Spence or Shaq Lawson B.) Take Shilique Calhoun C.) Draft BAP in the 2nd and take an edge rusher later (say Alex McCalister in the 3rd/4th)
I have been thinking that the Jags will look to trade back into Rd 1, like they considered last year for a RB.
There are two options in my mind. The Jags could trade with Arizona or the Panthers (29 or 30) for Picks 38 (Rd 2) and 103 (Rd 4). If the Jags want to be bold they could trade up with Washington, the Jets or maybe even the Bills (19, 20 or 21) for Picks 38 (Rd 2) and 69 (Rd 3). Is it possible that Noah Spence falls to the Cardinals pick at Pick 29? Maybe. I think the Jags may be able to land Ogbah, Dodd or Spence with the 2nd and the 4th Rd picks. Now Spence could go as early as the Jets or Bills, so if the Jags feel that Spence is worth the 2nd and 3rd pick package then that is what they are going to have to fork over to move up that high. Personally, I think Spence is worth the Jags 2nd and 3rd Rd picks. Myles Jack and Noah Spence would make a very successful draft class, regardless of whomever they take with the other picks they have.
I don't think we should trade back. Dave said he knows 5 guys he would pick if the draft was today. If that guy is there at 5 or multiple guys are there at 5 I think you draft him. I don't see this team picking in the top 5 for years to come or top 10. Lets get a blue chip player in Jack or Ramsey if they aren't there take Bosa. I would want a top 5 talent player on this roster because we won't draft another one unless we traded up in the future.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
If we didnt sign odrick we could just walk right into Deforest and feel great assuming Chargers dont.
Quote:If we didnt sign odrick we could just walk right into Deforest and feel great assuming Chargers dont. Then we would theoretically be one player behind. Odrick + whoever else we draft is better than Buckner and no one by far.

Quote:Then we would theoretically be one player behind. Odrick + whoever else we draft is better than Buckner and no one by far.disagree. Buckner gonna be miles better than odrick. Quote:disagree. Buckner gonna be miles better than odrick.Odrick gets way to bad of a rap on here. Buckner is going to be Hella good but we can get by with an above average 5t, which Odrick is. I'd day an above average to good player in Odrick along with a prime talent at 5 even in the [BLEEP] scenario is better than buckner. Guys like VH3, LAawson, etc. are going to be good. I doubt Buckner makes it past SD, he fits a 3-4 better than Bosa and is a higher upside prospect than Bosa. So it's a moot point anyway.
A draft like this would be awesome
1) Myles Jack - LB - UCLA 1) Noah Spence - LEO - EKU (use our 2nd & 4th) 3) Nick Martin - C - ND 5) DJ White - CB - GT 6) Alex McCalister - LEO - UF 6) Joe Schobert - OTTO - WIS 7) Dan Vitale - HB - NWU UDFAs Kelvin Taylor - RB - UF Ross Martin - DUK Jack gives us speed our defense desperately needs. Spence, McCalister, and Schobert combine with Fowler to help our edge rush. Martin helps solidify our interior line. DJ White competes in a much improved secondary. Vitale gives us another element to our running game and Taylor competes with Denard and Grant for the last RB spot. Ross Martin comes in to push Myers. |
