"Yeldon and Ivory to split carries"...but...

#41

Ivory is the short yardage, goal line and end of the game RB. Hopefully we're able to have/hold onto a lead in the 3rd/4th quarter, which is where Ivory will be able to pound on teams and continue to wear them down.

Yeldon is the better all around RB. He's a better pass catcher and a better pass blocker. They should complement each other very well though, but only time will tell.

Either way, we don't need Bortles chucking it up 40-50 times a game.

Quote:I think they will go with the hot hand. It's a good move to bring Ivory here. If Ivory outshines Yeldon, he will deserve the nod for starter. And you don't pay someone over 5 million a year to outshine your starter and play 2nd fiddle. I see it as a competition (unspoken), which is a good thing. Management will never say that out loud though.

Chris Ivory is the starter, IMO.   Unless they are worried about him being injured or something...

Yeah I don't think Ivory comes here to backup Yeldon. It wouldn't surprise me if he beats him for the starting gig and we see a full-blown time share. Don't kid yourself. We didn't bring in Ivory and pay him what we did for him to be a situational back. And I don't think he comes here to be that either.

I think the telling comment for me is when Dave talked about Ivory, he talked about him being decisive and hits the hole fast while TJ is more patient. I have a feeling that when they looked at film, they saw TJ dancing around too much in the backfield when there were holes (albeit perhaps small) that he could have hit.

Even with Denard with his fumbling issues, you were able to see a bit how "deliberate" our running game looked like when he was in there vs. TJ.

Quote:This. Two power backs and two speed backs. I like Robinson and Grant on special teams. Gray is intriguing though...

I don't get why Gray is intriguing. He had 14 carries for 54 yards in two games and 23 of those yards were on one carry against New Orleans.

If it was the Jags "intent" to bring in Ivory to merely "back up" Yeldon at a $5 Million per year pop.............they should have just kept Gerhart at a cheaper price and hope he could at least come back and contribute something. It makes no sense to bring Chris Ivory in and NOT make him the starter. But, stranger things have happened. What does the move on Ivory really say about how the jags feel about Yeldon. Maybe they think his health might come into question at some point.

They will call it a tandem, but I personally think Ivory will be used more (and get better results)

I think it might even be Ivory with a bulk of the carries up the middle, then D-Rob to the outside as a change up with TJ Yeldon as Ivory's backup & Corey Grant being shoelaces backup but who knows... maybe all 3 will get equal amounts of time..

It'll be easier to tell come PreSeason...

Quote:Ivory is here because when Yeldon went down last season, the running game went straight down the commode. They don't want to see that happen again.
I believe this was the main reason for bringing him here. Also as many have stated he has a different running style which will benefit us greatly especially against defenses that can shut down an indecisive back.

I don't think Yeldon can stay healthy for 16 games.  They'll probably share the workload with most carries going to the guy who's picking up yards from game to game.

Grant and his speed. Can catch a tired defense off guard. So would make him more valuable then Shoelace.

I don't see this at all. Ivory is not here for the Gerhart role. Rather, he's here to put up some yards. I totally see this as a 1a/1b situation for Ivory and Yeldon where they both look to exploit defenses for some big gains. If you haven't had much of an opportunity to really watch Ivory, you're going to be in for a little bit of a suprise. The guy is pretty darn good and will consistently pick up extra yards.
