MERGED - NORMAN-MANIA!

I agree with Z. Norman played way better than Sherman did in 2015.

It's rumored here (and I think it's BS) that we let him go see what his real market value is and if he can get the $16M then good for him. But if he's getting the $12M-$13M that he's worth then the opportunity to renegotiate with Carolina is there. This is exactly what Charles Johnson did before he resigned. Seems highly unlikely that a franchised player would do this - I think Trotter is the last to do it with the Eagles - but maybe it's a way to try and bring Josh back down to Earth on his worth.

Again....I think it's a longshot and that dude is gone.

I don't know if teams are going to offer him 16m; but I think he'll be offered over 13m. I agree. I think he's gone from Carolina.

@ChadEvansSports just tweeted that the Jaguars ARE showing interest in Norman.  I'm not sure how reliable he is, but I think he was the first to report Malik coming to Jacksonville.

Ok....who's talking about that? We were talking about the top 5 CBs in the league right now.

Yes. And just because he had 1 year (in a contract year) does not automatically mean he is a better player RIGHT NOW than Sherman.

OK....but neither of your posts have anything to do with me saying 2015 Josh was better than 2015 Sherman. So

Eidt: And Josh has been a stud for 1.5 years. Not just in his contract year as you put it.

You quoted my rankings of the best corners in the league. So yes, it has everything to do with it.

We don't count .5 years.

I would take 2016 Norman over 2016 Sherman.

Nothing new brewing. He's going to take his time with this. Probably won't hear anything definitive until tomorrow or most likely next week. We'll see.

Pete Prisco just said on the radio he doesn't expect the Jaguars to go after Norman and was adamant that they shouldn't.   He said every single defensive back and wide receiver he's talked to around the NFL doesn't think he's that good.  He says he's worth about 7-8 million per year.

Given the national press that Dave has gotten this off season of signing a number of good players but "swinging and missing" at the players "everyone thought we should get" like Vernon, Irvin, & Ayers this year and Decourty last year, I can totally understand the strategy of putting out very soft feelers and talking with people but trying to stay in the shadows this time.

If the Jaguars were totally open about their intentions and freely seen as primary contenders for Norman and don't get him, it would become just another player they could not close on and another player using the Jaguars as leverage for a better contract.

Dave could very well be doing his due diligence but keeping all his cards close to the vest.

So let me get this straight. We threw the house at Vernon, a guy that wasn't even that good and nowhere near worth the amount we offered... But we won't throw LESS money at an all pro CB? A dude that kept #1 receivers contained all year long? Are we actually fine with relying on injury prone Prince, supsended Colvin, bubblegum Gratz, and a below average McCray? Signing Norman would almost guarantee a win against the Packers, because Jordy Nelson will be the reason why we win or lose.

I understand though, it's fine to be mediocre. Why would you ever try and get a true shutdown CB for your defense? Why would you try and speed up this process and shutdown receivers like Hopkins and TY Hilton? Who we have to play twice a year, and they ALWAYS find a way to burn us no matter what.

The argument is that he's a zone CB with safety help and not a true shutdown QB.
