Crap. Why is the BTCG on Fox, which never shows any regular season Big Ten games? Does that make any sense? I thought it would be on ABC, which has a contract with the Big Ten.

 

BTW I just realized we already know the Tigers will win the SEC game.

Does anybody think Ohio State can lose and still get to the BCS NCG? I know the SEC teams played a harder SOS because of the conference they are in, but that is just one of many factors in the BCS formula.

 

If I was confident Duke coule upset FSU I would wish the Big Ten game was played earlier in the day so I could watch both of them. But I know Duke's chances are slim to none, so it is fine that I can't watch it. I will check the score updates at the bottom of my screen to see if it is a better game than everyone expects.

I believe the Big 10 Championship game has been televised on Fox prior to this season. I remember watching Wisconsin vs (I can't remember the opponent now, ?) in the title game on Fox.

From who?  Alabama fan?  Nobody from ESPN is saying that.  The two guys  from ESPN who are pro-SEC are Cowherd and Finebaum.  All they say is that the SEC Champ should get in against FSU or OSU.  That's all.

this SEC bias is really just in the imagination of fans of other teams. the SEC is the strongest conference, and those teams get the benefit of the doubt from playing a tougher schedule. that's all

Yes. I've been to many games there. I lived just a block off campus for quite a while. Most of my family went to school there. I love the Buckeyes. But, I'm a realist about Big 10 level of competition in recent years. I'm really hoping they win tomorrow, but it will be very tough. And, it won't surprise me in the least to see them get best by MSU.

I always had no doubt that the SEC was far and away the best conference in college football (well, the top 2 or 3 teams in the conference are among the best).


But, I'm starting to wonder if the whole conference from top to bottom is near as strong as we have all thought these past few years.


Causing my question for this is Missouri and Texas A&M. Those schools just moved into the SEC from the mighty Big 12. Neither team was really a Big 12 juggernaut. Missouri would be good every 3-4 years. A&M really struggled for a long time until they got Johnny Football and a new coach.

Now, only in their 2nd season in SEC, Missouri is in the Conference Championship, and A&M has had good success and is definitely competitive with the other schools.


No doubt, the top 2-3-4 teams in SEC are strong, but regarding the whole conference as some great "level of competition" is starting to fade, in my eyes.


That said, the bowl records have been good. We'll see how that plays out this bowl season.

I don't think the Big 12, or Big 10, or Pac 12 would be strengthening their competition by adding Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn to their conference.

 

If National Championships are the defining criteria for how powerful the rest of the conference is then every time Kentucky or Florida wins a National Championship in basketball you would have to make the claim the SEC is the strongest basketball conference.

 

Last July 1st, when it was mentioned by another that it was now official Texas A&M and Mizzou were now part of the SEC, a customer asked, "Do you think A&M and Mizzou can handle the SEC?" I guess that question has been answered.

The SEC is a top heavy conference. There are a few good teams every year, and the rest are average to below average. Don't act like every team in the SEC can win a national title. Missouri was an average program in the Big 12, with a good year sprinkled in here and there.

i didnt say every SEC team is always great. it's just a fact that overall it has been the best conference for a long time now. no other conference comes close. top heavy? if the SEC is top heavy, what do you call the Big 10, ACC, Pac12?


the PAC 12 is the only other conference close to being as difficult as the SEC.


Missouri having good years here and there means to me that they are above average, but whatever. they also now get the benefit of recruiting in the best conference in football, so that has to help them and A&M.

Most of my family went to Ohio State too: both parents, both uncles, both sisters, and one grandfather (who transferred from Miami of Ohio). I went to Columbus State for academic reasons. My whole life until two years ago, I lived in central Ohio. I like to say I literally have scarlet blood and think of myself as a Buckeye even though I was a Cougar. I miss going to an OSU game every year.

 

I also am a realist about our chances of winning tomorrow. My expectation is it will not be a blowout, shutout, or shootout, just a close game like the one we saw last night. But MSU is #10 for a reason so although it would not be shocking, I will be surprised if we lose.

I think the SEC is roughly half good half bad. What annoys me is most people seem to think it is only made up of the good teams and does not include as many perennial losers as perennial winners - and, this year, that some recent superpowers teams crash-landed out of the rankings.

alot of you seem to have the critic hat on when looking at the SEC, but then fail to mention your own conference which consists of 1-2 good teams. the SEC has 5-6 solid to really good teams every year.

what people? the in-conference schedule is difficult enough. it's about 10x more difficult to run the table in the SEC than any other conference, especially the big 10 or acc
