Hey Libertarians--- Watcha Gonna DO?

Quote:Exactly. A 1/4% (at least) rate hike would be a start. I, too, doubt rates go negative. But the Fed has at the very least been telling the major banks to start including a negative rate scenario in their financial models and to have a plan in place. At the very least, the Fed has been thinking about it. Scary. The worst part about the whole bubble situation and rates being so low, is that if there is a financial crisis, the Fed can't use their favorite tool to try to kick start the economy: cut rates! Lol.

Quote:Exactly. A 1/4% (at least) rate hike would be a start.... So have you thought about what an interest rate hike would mean to business? What would a rate hike mean to investment possibilities in the USA? Why are we dependent on interest rates and not tax rates? These are things that you never hear about if you didn't study it. But I know, you guys really understand stuff based on Reaganomics and what they tell you on the Rush Limbaugh Fox News Entertainment news-cycle... Unfortunately, what you have been exposed to and indoctrinated into is not really 100 level college economic studies. I know! I know!! College is aweful!!! But, guess what? All your republican heroes all studied it, and that's why they tell you one thing, and then do the exact opposite. Did you know that Ted Cruz is a harvard graduate? Did you know that he studied and believes in the basic economic principles that he campaigns against? They pray on your ignorance to get your votes. Then they execute economic theory that you think is bunk. You're being played as a fool. The fact that you are on the outside of your own party and your own political ideology should provide you the opportunity to actually think about your beliefs in an existential way. Just my 2 pennies...
Quote:Neocon Panic Attack! What If Ron Paul Becomes Trump's Secretary of State? Quote:That would be one way to secure my vote! Ron Paul's tax and social spending policies would terrible. But Ron Paul as Secretary of State would be very similar to a Bernie Sander's Secretary of State. Let that sink in. Ron Paul's global trade policy and Bernie Sander's global trade policy would be pretty much the exact same dog-on thing... Quote:Ron Paul's tax and social spending policies would terrible. But Ron Paul as Secretary of State would be very similar to a Bernie Sander's Secretary of State. yea my problem isn't with Bernie's foreign policy, it's his socialist domestic policy that is 100% different than Ron Paul. But I guess you only know what the liberal NBC entertainment news cycle tells you. There are Pros and Cons to everything when it comes to economics, including interest rates. Keeping rates low for this long is good for borrowers and has other benefits that you mentioned, but there are also drawbacks.

The economy (much like the world's) has been really kept alive by the govts otherwise it should've collapsed a long time ago.
That is what happens in business and in gambling things rise & fall but artificially forcing a constant rise or maintaining when it should've collapsed only delays the inevitable. I simply have to refer to the political pandering of the lower class done by the Democrats in regards to raising the minimum wage. It sounds great, and for Republicans to deny it sounds heart less until you really understand what is actually occurring. By increasing the minimum wage law, you are only temporarily kicking the can down the street in the same way as increasing the debt limit. You say sure your minimum wage is now $20 dollars an hour (great happy days lets dance and throw a party) but wait a burger now costs $20 what used to cost $10 which was $5 dollars when the minimum wage was $5 dollars.. my point is you dont get more money and everything stays the same, in order for businesses to pay their employees that higher wage they increase costs thru several industries which then increases everything in a domino effect... Bernie & Hilary aren't stupid they know that to be the case, but they also know (along with Donald Trump) that by saying you will increase the minimum wage that you will win votes & popularity despite it being a flawed policy.

It definitely discourages saving. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Quote:... Listen kiddo. The interest rate being as low as it is does nothing but artificially pump up business as well as consumer spending. If The Fed raises interest rates .25% (1/4%) and it destroys a business, then that business deserves to fail. If it makes it harder for someone to get a loan, then that person probably really has no business taking out the loan in the first place. Look at it this way. After the dot-com bubble burst and the attacks on 9/11, what did The Fed do to strengthen the economy? They dropped interest rates dramatically to encourage spending. Our society as a whole has become addicted to spending while far too many people don't actually save or invest. Just ask people if they contribute to their 401k (if their company or job offers one). The number of people that don't contribute at all may surprise you. The ones that do contribute, ask them how much and I'll bet that the number that say less than 10% of their income is very high. Ask people that don't have a 401k as part of their job benefits if they have an IRA or other savings. The number that don't will shock you. Taxes are an entirely different issue that I won't get into. I realize that you get your information from your college indoctrination education as well as Rachel Maddow and the rest of NBC news. However, the bottom line is that an individual, business or a country spending artificial wealth (loans) is an unsustainable train wreck waiting to happen. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Quote:I dont know why anybody would waste their time standing in line to do this I vote by mail. Quote:Yes I can understand voting for a legitimate party. Voting for yourself or your cat or something is literally a waste of time considering how long it takes to stand in line."And with 100% of the vote counted, we can finally call it: The Real Marty is the next President of the United States of America."
Quote:Yes I can understand voting for a legitimate party. Voting for yourself or your cat or something is literally a waste of time considering how long it takes to stand in line. You do know that there are other choices on the ballot besides voting for President? I usually vote for the Libertarian candidate for President. That in and of itself means that I don't get to choose the lesser of the two evils. But I still vote for candidates who have a chance to win in the down-ballot slots, as well as for amendments and judges. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?"
Quote:At this point im going to support trump but I'm going to hold his feet to the fire because I believe he is naturally going to drift left. WHAT?!?! You have been a huge critic of him, maybe one of his biggest on this board. Please tell me that you didn't make your decision based on Rand Paul? I honestly didn't think endorsements ever actually changed peoples minds, but if you tell me that he changed your mind I will begin to take them more seriously.

Please tell me that you didn't make your decision based on Rand Paul? No not because of the endorsement because of Hillary. I'm not happy about trump and I'll continue to be hard on him and his supporters as he drifts left. But the other option is Hillary and I just can't go there. I voted third party when it was mccain and Obama, I sucked it up for Romney and I'm leaning towards suckibg it up for trump, however he keeps drifting left and I'll resort to the [BLEEP] it option and stay home. As much as I want to vote libertarian our candidate is going to be Garry Johnson and he's firmly pro-choice that makes it hard for me to vote for him.

But the other option is Hillary and I just can't go there. Serious question. Does that one issue that you disagree with Johnson on, really outweigh all of the other things you believe in that he believes in? I ask because, Trump is as pro-choice as Johnson, he just isn't admitting it. Does the issue of abortion weigh that heavy on your decision? I can understand it being part of the puzzle, but when I look at Johnson, I see someone who sounds almost like everything you would want in a candidate (based on your posts.) Would you really let that issue, that isn't going to change under Trump anyways, steer you away from voting towards trying to get your party that elusive 20% in a year it is a real possibility?

No wonder the party is going nowhere.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
