I am stoked about this pick up. Werner was one of my favorite Seminole players back in his day. I hope he comes in and competes. If they can find a spot for  him expect him to be on the roster this fall.

If he ends up being a back up, what's wrong with that? It gives us another player who can play the run at least as Yannick cannot really spell Dante on those downs.

In a vacuum, simply signing Bjoern Werner? That's fine, but all you teal glasses wearing homers failed to realize that we released soon to be Hall-of-Famer Chance Casey in order to make room for him on the roster. We gave up on a future all-time great (whose on his sixth team in four years) to sign a former first round pick who was miscast in a terrible defense.

The Colts had another guy, Jerry Hughes, who was a bust in their system, went to Buffalo, then thrived.

 

Are the odds high that Woener would duplicate that here?  No.  But again, there is zero risk involved in bringing him aboard.

 

Beyond that, however, there is potential tangible benefit.

 

Yes we get Fowler back.

 

Yes, the team drafted three LEO candidates.

 

But there's no experienced guy there.  We went after two guys in free agency that could have filled that role, but we failed to get either guy. 

 

Woerner provides an additional body and more experience than Fowler and the other new guys combined.

 

If nothing else, he will ease Fowler back into the lineup by taking some practice/camp reps.

Awesome comment and great perspective. Werners stats in his first 3 years are actually better than Hughes. It's is not outside the realm of possibility that he could take a step like Hughes did. He's only 25.


Now obviously I doubt this is the case. He will prolly be first to get cut but man if he steps up like Hughes did we are in for a dominant defense.
