Most bad presidents have one or two things you can point to. Bush has one or two things EVERY YEAR you can point to!


9-11, patriot act, Katrina, the Iraq war, the financial meltdown, scooter Libby, the firing of district attorney's, the va scandal, torture, Abu Ghraib, and that's just off the top of my head...

9-11 - Not his fault at all, and I do think that he handled the situation correctly.

 

Patriot Act - I somewhat disagree with this policy, but as someone that works in the job that I do, I see the need for it.

 

Katrina - Again, the actual hurricane wasn't his fault.  The aftermath points more to the current "chocolate city" mayor who happens to be sitting in prison right now.

 

The Iraq War - Based on the intelligence that he was given at the time and authorized by Congress, he did the right thing.

 

The financial meltdown - That was not a direct result of any of his policies, rather policies that were put in place prior.

 

I could go on, and each of your points could be a separate debate.

 

The fact of the matter is, George Bush was exactly the right President at exactly the right time in history.  The alternatives (Gore and Kerry) probably would have been more of a train wreck than our current President.

The worst was Buchanan followed by Andrew Jackson and LBJ. The best was Washington, hands down. All the rest fall somewhere in between with neither Bush nor Obama in the top 20.

I won't derail this thread but I disagree Lincoln didn't wage war to free anyone only to force states to stay in a union they wished to leave.

Agreed Bush was a horrible president, how "asleep at the wheel" or "willing to look the other way" I'm not sure. But programs like the TSA, the Patriot Act, taking how many days to get water to the thunderdome? are just examples of why I oppose government on so many levels.

Nobody, not even the mayor of New Orleans who failed to evacuate the city although he had thousands of school buses at his disposal, was asleep at the wheel. New Orleans survived the hurricane. A day later the levees gave way, which is what caused the disaster. If you want to blame anyone blame the government bureaucrats who failed to reinforce the levees when money was allocated for that purpose a decade earlier. The federal government sent aid to New Orleans as soon as the governor declared a state of emergency, and shipments of relief supplies were on their way awaiting the DEMOCRAT governor to act. It was illegal to take action before then.


 

9/11 was enabled by Jamie Gorelick (Clinton appointed bureaucrat) when she created a directive that all but blocked the coordination of the CIA, FBI, and NSA. Pieces of the information needed to stop the attack were there, but couldn't be put together, because GOVERNMENT. Clinton also had the opportunity to take out Bin Laden but decided against it. About all you can say about Bush as far as 9/11 was that his response was misguided. The federal bureaucracy made sure that any information prior to the attack was not accessible.
