Yeah the writers must have been lazy with the end of Arya's story arch with the Faceless Men. Hopefully it's redeemed when/if she makes it back to Winterfell. Was disappointed to see Blackfish's death. In the book he escapes and his whereabouts are unknown. Edmure completely turned his back on his family there. I am actually excited about The Hound's involvement with Berric and Thoros now. That's going to be an awesome trio with solid banter and dialogue being exchanged. It's going to be awesome when they meet up with Jon post-war with Ramsay or maybe just before or during. Next episode is going to be awesome. I hope it's like the episode where the Wall was under attack and Jon stood out as a leader like a sore thumb. I don't see him failing here.

Quote:Well, Arya's arc was quite a letdown for me. I agree. Her whole time in Braavos almost felt like filler to take up space with no real reasoning behind its inclusion otherwise...and yes, Edmure is a tool. Quote:The hound is straight savage ! I almost felt bad for the two young rubes who got hacked down first. That's what we call "declaring heroic fray." Quote:Can't wait to see how the Hound takes meeting Brienne again. I'm honestly not sure how he'll react and that unknown is personally very intriguing to me. Sandor is an odd bird in that regard. I don't particularly see him holding a grudge against Brienne because she didn't fight him out of malice or hatred and like his namesake, the Hound is very perceptive. There's also the fact that he often uses her as ammunition to berate [inferior] opponents who get in his way. You don't do that if you're bitter usually. Also, the "everybody's got jokes" scene was cute. I like Grey Worm and it was good to finally see him crack a smile. Varys leaving Mereen was particularly saddening for me as even though he doesn't get a ton of screen time, he's one of, if not the, most interesting characters on the show although as he was walking away, I've often wondered if Varys himself might not be (or once was) a Faceless Man. They don't convey this in the series at all really, but in the books he seems to be very skilled (almost supernaturally so) at disguise.

I can't say that I am sad to see the faceless men story line come to a close. King Tommen has really turned into an unlikable little weasel. Curious where that story line goes. We need more Mountain!

So what is the rumor that Cersei had the maester look in to? I can't remember if it's been told or not.
This season has been kind of boring and uneventful. Jon Snow and the Hound's storyline have been intriguing, but everything else has been very meh. I am glad Arya's arc is over because wow it was nonsensical and cliche. Hopefully the season finishes strong. It will be kind of hard to mess up the next episode, but we will see.
Quote:Well, Arya's arc was quite a letdown for me. Yeah, I was hoping for something little more...unusual. It feels like that in areas where the showrunners ran out of Martin's original source material the plot lines have settled into a more conventional form of storytelling. Still a good show. I'm not going to knock Edmure for his decision making, when you've been under duress for years and then your kid is threatened on top of it, it's probably tough to hold out. Also, I wonder if he doesn't have something else up his sleeve. He seemed to have a little bit more self-assurance when he got back into Riverrun then he necessarily should have.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Well, I think the whole end game with Arya in Bravos was to give her the stealth/fighting training of a faceless man. I imagine that is really going to come in handy down the line.

I really enjoyed this episode. It ended the disappointing Arya arc on a reasonable high point. I am a little bothered that we had two "fights" end off screen. Arya and the Blackfish. I understand the budget is being blown on next week's Snow Bowl but still. Give us something.
Quote:So what is the rumor that Cersei had the maester look in to? I can't remember if it's been told or not.Based on what Jamie said to Edmere "She'll burn the whole city down...." I am guessing the rumor is all of the hidden away wildfire the mad king had stored throughout the city.

Still a good show. Why does he care about the kid? The whole thing was a ruse and his whole family was murdered. I really do not understand his caring more for the kid (and the wife it seems) then for his remaining family and people.
I more content with how Arya's situation was resolved than if it had been one of the crazy scenarios posted in this thread. The only part I question was how well her body healed after getting gut stabbed and chased by the Waif all over town, with all the jumping out of buildings and tumbling down steps. As for her final fight with the Waif, I liked it. Puts out the light, and thus immediately seizing the advantage because of her experience with blindness.
If something can corrupt you, you're corrupted already.

The whole thing was a ruse and his whole family was murdered. I really do not understand his caring more for the kid (and the wife it seems) then for his remaining family and people. I think he cares because the duress he's been under makes him evaluate his priorities and I think "the good guys" in this universe generally care about their children. If he'd said "I don't care about my kid, go ahead and catapult him anywhere you want", it would have seemed out of character with what we know of him which is basically a good hearted guy, if occasionally mildly incompetent. But that's not the important thing. Like I said, he could have had some ulterior motive. I think he's getting a bum rap considering he's been in a Frey dungeon for who knows how long.

Quote:So what is the rumor that Cersei had the maester look in to? I can't remember if it's been told or not. Like someone already said the wildfire is a strong possibility since we've seen it exploding under the city in Bran's vision. Also, the scene cut straight to Tyrion, so it could have something to do with him, if you believe the rules of cinema.

As for her final fight with the Waif, I liked it. Puts out the light, and thus immediately seizing the advantage because of her experience with blindness. My questions (along with yours): Every time we see her training, she gets her butt handed to her. So is she supposed to be trained now? Will she just fight everyone in the dark? She had a few weeks of sword training years ago. So how good is she with Needle? Why is Jaqen so content with letting her go, when she knows all these secrets about their order? He seemed proud of her... so he let personal feelings guide his judgement. Meaning both the Waif and Jaqen let things get personal with Arya. So is no one there actually "no one"? Does she posses Faceless Man skills now? She still seemed pretty Padawan level to me. Bahhhhhhhhhh. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Based on what Jamie said to Edmere "She'll burn the whole city down...." I am guessing the rumor is all of the hidden away wildfire the mad king had stored throughout the city. I think Jaime is going to kill Cersei. Think about it. He had that long soliloquy about doing anything to be by her side. Then, think of how he killed the Mad King when he went crazy with the wildfire. Cersei is going to use the wildfire, burn the city and accidentally kill Toman at the religious dudes place. Jaime will kill her to stop it from getting worse thus fulfilling the prophesy she received about all her kids dying and her being killed by her younger sibling (who we all thought would be Tyrione.) OR Something completely different from what I just suggested.

― Albert Camus Quote:My questions (along with yours): She got over on the waif, but maybe that doesn't mean anything. At least Jaqen seemed impressed and gave her a passing mark. She may have been there longer than we think. In the books her training spans "A Feast for Crows" and "A Dance with Dragons" and it seemed like she was there longer than a few weeks. Even at the end of Dance with Dragons she's just starting her apprenticeship.

It's hard to assume she's learned the skills we thought she would once she was sent all skipping and hopping around in the open after bailing on super assassins. Someone trained wouldn't do something that dumb. |
