I saw Lovie Smith's name mentioned too.

Lovie would denote a wholesale change. Hes a defensive guy that runs the Tampa 2 out of the 43. This is a stark contrast to the Wade Phillips 34. Hes also known for being incapable of properly evaluating offensive strategy, which has led to several disastrous OC hires. If the Texans go with Lovie Smith, theyll also need to take it upon themselves to choose his OC.


Then you also have the problem of putting a young QB (whether that is Keenum or a rookie they draft) in the hands of a guy that has never developed QBs well.


I dont think its a good fit.

McClain mentioned Shaw. He also mentioned about 10 other guys. Stanford is Shaw's dream job. He isn't leaving unless some team is willing to pay him some ungodly amount of money.

Its hard to say how the Texans hire, they've only had 2 head coaches in the history of the franchise.


Tennessee tended to hire from within when Bud Adams was owner, we will see how the new ownership handles things this offseason.


Indianapolis under Jim Irsay hasnt hired from within often, and tends to go through a battery of interviews before picking a guy who fits the mindset they are looking to build around.


Its owner philosophy, and I would say Khan and Caldwell did their due diligence and got a very good hire in Gus Bradley.

Every NFL owner has an ungodly amount of money. That doesn't mean they are willing to spend it on a coach.

Munchak sure looks almost identical to Mularkey so far, too.

 

He has had a better roster to work with, but he can't identify or develop quarterbacking talent.

Munchak should have stayed an o line coach. He doesnt have the nearly enough knowledge to help develop other positions. If Tennessee already had a developed QB who could handle himself, Munchak probably would have done okay. As it is, it was asking for disaster.

Teams that have coaching staff's that are not good with QB is a recipe for eventual failure.

The Texans hired Dom Capers.  They just happened to keep him around a long time.  


I'd also say maybe Frank Kush with the Colts.  And Hugh Campbell for the Titans.

After watching Schaub last night compared to what Keenum has given of late, its pretty clear that starting Schuab would be the move of a team that was being honest with its claims of trying to win out their remaining games....but if you want to continue to pretend that the Texans aren't tanking, be my guest.

Maybe we could rename and rebrand the team the Jacksonville Coach Killers?  The NFL could introduce a new rule next year as well.  If you lose to the Coach Killers, you as head coach are fired on the spot, you forfeit any remaining money on your contract and you are responsible for getting your own plane ticket home if it's a loss here at Everbank.  All of our games would have a playoff-like atmosphere.
