Dump Chad Henne

Teams with good rosters cut draft picks. That said, I understand why this is a foreign concept for Jags fans.

Quote:Show me the statistics where a 6th rd rookie is the primary backup. Good luck with that one.

Show some common sense and you won't be called an idiot.

Obviously common sense aint soo common. My debate isnt about a 6th rounder being a backup.. Its about a 6th rounder being better then Henne..

Fail. Brady began his rookie season as the 4th string QB and was active for only 1 game, and Hasselbeck spent his rookie year on the practice squad.

So neither were the primary backup as a rookie but you are just too dumb to understand that.

If that were the case, the only thing you would post would be insults.

4th string is a backup... Its definitely not a starter.. Just stop! They both were drafted in the 6 rnd and went on to win games in the nfl... Proving that a 6 rounder can go from being a backup or even worst a 4 stringer,to a starter or potentially hall of famer.

No one said a 6th rounder can't go on to win games in the NFL. I said for you to show us a 6th rd rookie that was the primary backup.

Using Tom Brady as a 6th round pick to try and "prove" your point actually does the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish. It's such a huge exception to the rule that you just look stupid if you try and use it as your argument.

No way, there is a reason Allen was a 6th round QB.  Maybe he will develop but to have him as your only backup on week one is stupid.  I can see letting Henne go after this season but not until then.

AJ McCarron did just fine last year as the Bengals primary backup, and he was a 5th round pick.

Quote:The Jags see value in Henne doesn't mean he is good. Keeping him is one of many bad decisions this team has been making for years. As of now, no one for sure knows how Allen is. If he proved himself in the pre season, what is there to keep Henne?

There's always the chance that a late round draft pick might impress in the preseason, but the odds of that happening are long at best.  The team drafted him as a developmental QB who could eventually assume the backup role.  I doubt very seriously they expected that to be the case in 2016, which is why they retained Henne.

I'm not quite sure how Henne is one of "many bad decisions" this team has been making for years.  He's a backup QB.  That was always expected to be his role on this roster, and he has done what has been asked in that capacity.  It's almost like some of you think this team needs to have two starting caliber QBs on the roster at all times.  It's as if you haven't quite yet grasped how difficult it is to find ONE franchise QB.

Quote:One thing is for sure, you don't spend draft picks on guys you're expecting to cut. Henne's days were always numbered, but that signing bonus Dave gave him a few months ago might look especially wasteful pretty soon.

Spending a 6th round draft pick isn't exactly declaring him the future starter or even backup for this team.  That's a draft pick that you bring in, work with him, and then determine if you can develop him into a solid backup.  He's low enough on the food chain that odds are you can cut him and re-sign him to the practice squad when the time comes.

Henne got a $500k signing bonus, and $5 million guaranteed for two years.  The contract itself is actually a pretty affordable one based on the going rate for a veteran backup QB.  One thing this team cannot be accused of is being wasteful with the salary cap, and this contract is no exception, especially for a team that has had one of the healthiest salary caps in the league for several years now.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

McCarron wasn't a rookie.
