Ronald Leary would be a good pickup

Quote:Cyp, JoeckelBut Dallas is set at T. For that matter, I'm not too sure Cyp would fit the bill for them either. IIRC, they are running Tampa 2 concepts. Coverage is NOT Cyp's thing and would be ill suited for that scheme. He's an in the box SS. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Quote:Yes, but could always use a Backup We could use a backup T and SS as well. We aren't really in a position to part with either of them quite yet. I also expect Cyp to play much better this year
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS
I wouldn't mind giving up a late pick for him. But I doubt Dallas would even consider it tbh. We'd have to package another player with it probably. And as little faith that we all have in Cyp right now, I'm thinking he might play a lot better now with Gipson and better CB depth. I think that's the coaching staff's thought process as well. Plus I don't see much trade value in him as of now at least.

The Jags are accumulating depth on the O-line, and that is fine, but a clear starter at left OG who could really solidify the starting five is out there for the taking; Ronald Leary from the Cowboys.
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/demote...itter-bio/ Hear me out. I think Leary would be better than anybody we currently have on the team to start at LG. He was the starter on the best O-line in the NFL in 2014. Dallas desperately needs help on the D-line, and we have a surplus there now it seems. Going to be some tough cuts on our the D-line to get to 53. Why not strike a deal now for one of our D-lineman + OG Tyler Shatley to Dallas for Ronald Leary? Both teams would benefit. Dallas would be rid of the disgruntled Leary, and improve their D-line, plus have decent OG/OC depth still with the versatile Shatley. We would get a starter at LG to complete our O-line and provide run-blocking for Yeldon, and especially Ivory to run free, opening up the passing game even more. Thoughts? And who would you try to trade of so?
I'm not a fan of trading for players who want a trade because they were demoted...... Go back and earn the spot. If we did trade, I wouldn't want to give up any of our D-Line rotation. Maybe Alualu; but I don't think I'd offer much for him.

Not the worst idea I have ever heard. I would be okay weith shipping Alualu over for Leary. I don't envision Tyson making the team anyways.

I don't envision them letting go of the kind of availability/work ethic that Alualu provides game after game. I do agree that Leary would be a good addition.

Alualu would be my top pick to try to trade. He can play both DT and DE in their system probably. Get rid of the last Gene Smith draft pick. Michael Bennett seems expendable now with the drafting of Sheldon Day. Same guy almost. Chris Smith, who is an Arkansas alum, might intrigue Jerry Jones some.
As far as trading for players that are second team, I hear ya, but Caldwell does not seem to be shy to pick up those type guys, depending on the situation that they are coming from. Dallas fell into a Pro Bowl caliber player when they signed La'el Collins after his unwarranted draft fall. They knew he wanted to play for them, and they took advantage of the situation. Ronald Leary, only 27, would still probably be starting if not for that fluke, and as I said, he is probably better than anybody on our roster to start at LG (30-year-old Bernadeau with very few starts? Journeyman Linkenbach? Short-timer Joeckel, who has not played OG? New guy, Omameh who would not stick with the sorry Bears O-line?) Quote:Might be time for a vision test High Score. I don't envision them letting go of the kind of availability/work ethic that Alualu provides game after game. I do agree that Leary would be a good addition. I like Alualu as a role player here, but he's definitely going to be competing for a roster spot this season. Right now there are what I'd consider seven locks along the line. Those are Fowler, Ngakoue, Miller, Jones, Marks, Jackson, and Odrick. That likely leaves three remaining spots for Alualu, Day, Bennett, Ash, Chris Smith, Werner, and all the other remaining linemen to fight over. I'd also consider Day a near lock due to his draft position too, so that's already eight linemen and four players on the roster who play 3T and 5T, which is where Alualu would line up. Maybe they do end up keeping six players at 3T and 5T, but I think there's a good chance it'll come down to Bennett and Alualu fighting for the fifth spot. I hear the left side of the O-line is looking pretty rough in training camp. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...nald-leary
Interesting. Wonder if Dave rather have Henne as backup and Joke at LG or trade Henne for Leary.

If I were Dave I'd propose Henne (Dallas needs a backup QB) and Tyson for Leary
Quote:If I were Dave I'd propose Henne (Dallas needs a backup QB) and Tyson for LearySounds good to me. I don't think Caldwell wants to let go of the security of Henne at back-up QB though. They seem to over-value him. However, the reality is any thoughts of the playoffs would be gone if Bortles went out for the season whether Henne or Allen, or some other back-up was starting.
If Bortles goes down, that's it. I'd prefer to go all in and upgrade the oline. That's the only thing that could derail the offense (besides injuries of course).
