Our OLine is going to be awful

#21

Should we all go to the Modis now or wait until at least the first preseason game?

Quote:Our OL has been bad for a long time now. That's nothing new. It just means Bortles will have to be Bortles. Joeckel at guard is night and day from what he looks like at tackle. If we can get Joeckel Linder and Cann in the middle maybe we can actually step into a pocket to throw the ball or run for more than 2 yards on occasion.

Is it okay to hope that Bortles isn't Bortles but an expected progressively matured version that keeps the ball on his side more? If we don't cut down on turnovers, like seriously, we are that other 'great' fearless arm in Chicago, with no result. Blake Bortles has the ball in his hands and will determine the Jags fate in the immediate future. You practice how you play, please keep at it mate. Clean up, clean up. Go Jags.
Success is a journey, not a destination.  Go all out Mighty Jaguars.

Haha same..

....and what is this being projected on, also?... Is it last years performances (where people are more experienced from)? Is it training camp where no competitive games have been played?

Again, let's wait until the first few weeks have been played.. then things can be assessed....

80% of what I talk about is nonesense.. the other 25% is made up statistics...

To be sure, our offensive line has been and continues to be the weakest link on our team. The fact that it didn't hurt us more last season is due more to the outstanding play of Bortles and the receivers than anything else. Games are won and lost in the trenches; that is a truism of football and there's a reason for it being a truism. Yes, we needed significant help on our defense and (at least on paper) we've gotten it. Our offensive line must be addresed next season; we're taking chances with the health of our QB now as it is.

Jacques McClendon is available on the trash heap if we wanted to revisit an interior OL.
Only a chump boos the home team!

Joeckel struggled at LT mainly because he looked like he was wearing cement boots. At guard, that weakness will not be as harmful. I expect him to become a decent guard.

In response to the OP:

Nah...

Beachum will be the starter week 1.

Joker will be a serviceable LG for a season.

If Linder @ C wasn't going to work, they wouldn't move him from where he was dominant.

Cann is average?? Do you even Jaguar?

Parnell is average? OK. I'll give ya that. It's hard to find 5 elite OL guys...

This line in comparison to last years will be better.

And our QB played well in spite of a bad line last year....

Calm down OP.

Linder, Cann and Parnell are fine.

Joeckel is probably OK at LG, but not great.

Beachum is a question mark but ought to be better than LJ by week 1.

I don't see "awful." I see question marks at LG and LT.

Quote:Beachum isnt consistently healthy enough to pencil in as a starter

Joeckel is a terrible tackle, maybe hes a better guard but even if he starts at guard then were between a not healthy beachum and Wells(god no). If hes not a guard Bernadeu is the other guy and he sucks too.

Linder is playing center for the first time

Cann and Parnell are average at best

The left side is going to be a mess unless beachum gets in and joke is good at guard. And the rest are going to have to be their absolute best. Blake is going to have a terrible time this year.

Quote:"isn't consistently healthy enough"

why? because they're not pushing him to come back early from an ACL in meaningless training camps? The guy is a 4 year vet he doesn't even need this stuff.

Joeckel looked good at guard during the scrimmage, we'll see how it works out when the regular season roles around but he has every chance to redeem his career at the position.

Linder by all accounts has looked great at center. We already know he's our best interior lineman; if he can snap the ball and is smart enough to know the offense (which he is) then he can be a good center.

Cann was good as a rookie, he could be even better this year. Parnell may very well be average but that's all you need from the RT spot. We know from last year that he's not a dumpster fire and for proof of that just see what happened when Young had to start against Houston...the wheels fell off.

I just don't share the same concerns of the OL as other people, particularly the media that is hyping it up as a problem. In 31 days Beachum will have been almost 11 months removed from the ACL injury, and we know he was one of the best pass blocking tackles in football before that. I really think Joeckel is going to salvage his career at LG. And I also believe in Linder at center. I think our line will be a lot better than people are expecting barring injury.

C-RT should be fine, if not good.

All we need is adequate from LT-LG.

I think our OL will be much better when Beachum and Linder get back.  We do need a solid LT back up. Luke ain't it.

Looking forward to the massive talent infusion on the oline next offseason.

It has to be.  We finally have a franchise QB yet we've subjected him to 122 sacks in 2 years and countless more big hits.  If Bortles gets seriously hurt or starts to look for pass rushers instead of pass catchers, the franchise takes a huge step backwards.  Protecting Blake should always be the priority.

Meh, teams have been able to pin their ears back the past three seasons due to our complete lack of even the threat of a good running back/attack. Even with/because of that the Offense was able to put up some record numbers. It will be fine.

Looking to troll? Don't bother, we supply our own.

That guy was awful. We should call up Will Rackley and see what he's up to these days while we're at it.

this isnt trolling by any means. Im not saying anything unfounded here, its the same conversation everyone has been having all offseason. Im just more pessimistic about it and apparently thats not allowed around here.
