My guess is:

QB - Bortles, Henne (2) - I don't think we carry 3 qbs. Either we cut Allen and try to get him on the PS, or cut Henne and develop Allen. Win-now season, and this roster spot should go to a bubble player that can play a role.

RB - Ivory, Yeldon, Robinson, Grant (4) - I was against Grant making the roster, but he does have value on special teams. Gray was impressive at the end of last season, but unless he has special teams value like Denard and Grant, I don't see him making the roster.

WR - Robinson, Hurns, Lee, Walters, Greene (5) - I would hate to let Benn go.

TE - Lewis, Thomas, Bowman, Jacobs (4) - Koyack and/or Sterling would have to show out to take Bowman's spot.

OL - Parnell, Beachum, Joeckel, Linder, Cann, Wells, Shatley, Bernadeau  (8) - Bowanko is out for the first six weeks? They should just IR him.

DL - Fowler, Marks, Jackson, Odrick, Ngakoue, Miller, Jones, Day, Bennett, Alualu (10) - Wow there's a lot of depth here. Gonna be a tough cut or two.

LOTTO - Skuta, Holmes, Davis (3)

LB - Jack, Poz, Smith, Tripp (4)

CB - Ramsey, House, Amukamara, Colvin, Marshall, Gratz (6) - Not sure if Colvin takes up a roster spot or not.

S - Gipson, Cyprien, Sample, Thompson (4)

K - Ficken (1)

P - Nortman (1)

KR - Grant

PR - Greene

LS - Tinker (1)

Like others said, no real shockers. But there is still plenty of pre-season to shuffle the lineup

Quote:Here is my first guess at the 53 man roster

QB(3) Bortles, Henne, Allen

RB(4) Ivory, Yeldon, Robinson, Grey

WR(5) Robinson, Hurns, Lee, Greene, Walters

TE (5) Thomas, Lewis, Koyack, Jacobs, Bowman

OL(9) Joekel, Beachum, Linder, Cann, Parnell, Wells, Shatley, Bernadeau, last spot would have been Bowanko, not sure who is the 9th linemen

DL(9) Fowler, Jackson, Miller, Ordrick, Ngakoue, Day, Marks, Bennett, Alualu

LB(6) Skuta, Smith, Poluszny, Davis, Tripp, Jack

DB(9) House, Gipson, Cyprien, Ramsey, Thompson, Sample, Amukamara, Gratz, Nick Marshall(only while Colvin is suspended)

SP(3)

The OLine is the only place I think we are reaching to add players for depth.  Otherwise we are looking at a very talented roster

Yea Abry Jones isn't getting cut

Abry, why don't you just prove us all wrong?

Quote:I kind of wish Linder and Cann were our Guards of the future.

How bad is Shatley?  Any chance we can get a veteran Center (that may get cut) and plug him in.  I know the Center is one of the most critical positions to be in sync with Bortles but I just don't think Linder is being maximized and it's also leaving a hole at LG.

Shatley is a bit like Wiz. That is, he can hold his own in pass protection, but he's got close to nothing to offer as a run blocker. At least that's what I've noticed in the practices so far this season, but maybe he'll prove me wrong in a game.

Here is my first guess at the 53 man roster

QB(3) Bortles, Henne, Allen

RB(4) Ivory, Yeldon, Robinson, Grey Grant

Tough to say on the last spot between Omameh, Reed and Slater.

DL(9) Fowler, Jackson, Miller, Odrick, Ngakoue, Day, Marks, Bennett Jones
, Alualu

LB(6) Skuta, Smith, Poluszny, Davis, Tripp, Jack

Brandon Allen has a natural deep passing arm that fits the scheme better than Henne's check down obsession. I believe they'll keep all three, but if they only keep two you should say goodbye to Henne.

RB - Ivory, Yeldon, Robinson, Grant (4) - I was against Grant making the roster, but he does have value on special teams. Gray was impressive at the end of last season, but unless he has special teams value like Denard and Grant, I don't see him making the roster.

Totally agree. Denard impressed a bit at the scrimmage so I've temporarily moved him up over Gray, but one or the other is gone.

WR - Robinson, Hurns, Lee, Walters, Greene (5) - I would hate to let Benn go.

Me too, which is why I'm starting to think they'll keep Benn as a 6th WR since he's easily among best 53 players and carries more value than an extra RB, TE or DB. If they only keep five, it's going to be a really tough call between Walters and Benn. For my money, I'm keeping Benn. Where Walters is a thread to get the first down, Benn is a threat to get the long bombs.

No way should they IR Bowanko. Even if he's out until mid-season, they may need him down the stretch since he's far and away our best Center after Linder.

DL - Fowler, Marks, Jackson, Odrick, Ngakoue, Miller, Jones, Day, Bennett, Alualu (10) - Wow there's a lot of depth here. Gonna be a tough cut or two.

I'm thinking they cut Bennett. I used to think it would be Alualu, but they sort of need him as the backup strongside DE with Jonathan Woodard injured.

LOTTO - Skuta, Holmes, Davis (3)

LB - Jack, Poz, Smith, Tripp (4)

I'd like to find a way to keep Holmes on the roster, but I'm starting to think he'll end up on the PS.

CB - Ramsey, House, Amukamara, Colvin, Marshall, Gratz (6) - Not sure if Colvin takes up a roster spot or not.

S - Gipson, Cyprien, Sample, Thompson (4)

KR - Grant

Abry is the only real NT besides Miller. He's a lock.

I'd rather keep Abry Jones or Bennett instead of Alualu. Jones plays a different position, and Bennett isn't that great, but he may have potential. We already know alualu sucks and always will.

I'm still on the fence with this Jacobs guy. He's strictly a blocker and not really a good one IMO.

His hands make Marcedes look like a god of consistency.   During camp and the scrimmage I've tallied 6 dropped passes by that guy.

I would hope they go with a better hands guy, but with our O-line woes currently, maybe Jacobs' size and blocking will get him in.

I can see all your changes.  I was trying to decide between Grey and Grant for the last RB.  The WR/TE positions are tough.  The Jags have a lot more talent at Receiver than at Tight End but I have feeling the Jags are going to use a lot of 2 TE sets instead of 3 WR and 1 TE because the offensive line is such a big question mark.  I am sure they would love to have Hurns/Robinson/Lee start with Thomas at TE.  We will see 6 WR and 4 TE could still happen.

I had Gratz/McCray close together.  I have Marshall making the team since both Gratz and McCray are both in the last year of their contracts and unlikely to come back.  So it is unlikely both make the team.  I know this isn't what you said but I thought I would still through it out there.

The offensive line still has me wondering.  I am pretty sure the Jags will carry 9 lineman but there isn't 9 good linemen on their roster.

We put a 2nd round tender on Jacobs for a reason. He isn't meant to be a dominant pass catcher. Just like Julius isn't meant to be a blocker. He's a 3rd string blocking TE who will make the roster.

Interesting. I forgot about the tender extension.  I guess they like his blocking a lot more than I do, because he sure can't catch a football. I sure hope they keep Bowman regardless. Great upside in both blocking and catching.

Grey wont make it. Too many of the same back. Grant will make it.

Yeah I'm just going on Jacob's size and blocking. I would say Koyack, but he's had drops too and isn't much good for anything but receiving. Heck, I'd be ok if they just went with 3 TEs... Julius, Marcedes and Braedon.
