Who stood out v. Jets?

Quote:This is based on the first half, I thought it was telling that Reed started over Bernadeau, and he played ok. He did struggle early on when Henne took over allowing a big defensive play, but otherwise seemed to hold his own out there. I'm not sold on Reed just yet, but he seems to have an inside to one of the Jaguars backup OL spots. Meanwhile, Shatley was stinking up the field at times. I have a tough time understanding why they seem to like him so much.

Several players from their third string units late in the game stood out for me. All of these names I'd like to see get more time against second stringers and feel have at least a decent shot at making the roster. I'll rank them from according to who I was most impressed with...

It's funny that within this thread and around the blogosphere there seem to be lots of contrasting opinions on Shatley/Reed/Joeckel's performance.
I thought Shatley was alright when with the ones (except for the Williams sack) and Reed was fine except for one pressure allowed. Neither did anything terribly impressive and Reed had some gaffs later on with the twos. Joeckel seemed fine to me too. Nothing great, but solid enough. Basically what you'd expect from a patchwork left side with little quality depth. Quote:It's funny that within this thread and around the blogosphere there seem to be lots of contrasting opinions on Shatley/Reed/Joeckel's performance. Shatley if he'd only given up the sack would have to be considered successful, but he got beat a few times, and badly. I agree Joeckel played fine. I didn't really notice Reed much which is usually a good thing for an offensive lineman.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

On a couple of plays, he moved the DT 5-6 yards backwards. Every time he pulled he put a hat on someone. You are correct, Shatley wasn't very good. Reed actually saved his butt on a few plays. I hope Linder comes back soon. Quote:Reed didn't look near as good in pass blocking as he did in run blocking. On a couple of plays, he moved the DT 5-6 yards backwards. Beachum will work individual drills and be evaluated day to day. Players are off Monday.

The starters played well, the backups played horribly. Their bums beat our bums.
Bortles/Robinson had a field day. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Reed didn't look near as good in pass blocking as he did in run blocking. I hope Linder comes back soon. The other day there was an O-zone question with a fan suggesting they make Shatley the C with Linder at LG. To do so would literally be replacing our best OL with our worst OL at the most important, or at least 2nd most important after LT, position on the OL. The difference between Linder and Shatley at Center is night and day. Shatley has learned enough being with this team to be technically sound, but he gets beat consistently in pass protection, and while he does ok zone run blocking, when he needs power he tends to be stood up. He lacks the power to get any real push. I compared him to Wiz in a prior post, but I was wrong about that. At least Wiz could pass block.
