Metallica Land Spot in ‘Guinness World Records 2015′ Edition

Quote:Judging by album sales, you're certainly not in the minority.  I just didn't care for the more radio-friendly, 4 minute songs and Bob Rock production.  I loved the early stuff like all hard-core fans did.  I remember seeing a high school classmate (who was female and a fan of hair bands) dancing at a party to Enter Sandman and I knew it was all over.  Chicks don't dance to Metallica songs at parties.

It's my opinion that it started to fall apart on the Justice album. Everything started to sound the same. At the time I joked the next album would be called Kill The Master Of One Puppet Riding Sandman For Justice. Years later, Metallica would usurp me by following Load with Reload. Well played, Metallica.

But yeah, the Black album was the end. One of the attractions to Metallica was the rawness of it, and a Bob Rock production put an end to that.

It isn't as if you were flooding the board by bumping zombie threads. I honestly don't understand the problem.

I don't have an issue with it all. I just thought it was worth mentioning you even remembered the fact you started a thread about Metallica two years ago.

I didn't start the thread. I did a search for "Metallica" in the sideline forum to see if any relevant posts came up where I could suggest they had a new album coming out. I did not think it warranted it's own thread, so I picked this one.

Also, seeing TMD doesn't like them, it validates why I love them so much.

Fair enough, I've been drinking because it's Friday so I'm even less coherent than I usually am. On the subject of heavy metal; what's your opinion on Babymetal?

Might have to crank up Master Of Puppets later tonight. I still love that album. Every song is fantastic.

How can you not love Master of Puppets?  Classic.  I disagree with your assessment of ...and Justice for All however.  Still a great album that holds up well.  You should listen to both tonight and see if you change your opinion.  I remember Justice coming out during my freshman year of college (yeah, do the math) and guys in my dorm playing it simultaneously on our portable CD players.  I even converted a couple of guys in my dorm who were Lynyrd Skynyrd and Depeche Mode fans into Metallica fans and brother, that ain't easy.

I still like Ride the Lightning, for no other reason than the presence of For Whom The Bell Tolls. Master is a great album, but for some reason "Bell" speaks to me.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Justice wasn't bad, but boy did they miss Cliff. And I felt they were trying to re-create Master, even starting with a thrasher, and ending with one. Just not as organic, in my opinion. But you're right, it still has some great tracks on it.

From a writing perspective, AJFA is one of my favorites. They intentionally left the bass out or basically non-existent to put Jason in his place. Some people have remastered the album on youtube with added bass and it sounds so much better.

I'll give you that regarding Cliff. Jason Newsted was no Cliff. Their first 4 albums all kind of had that formula with a thrasher at the beginning and the end, the 4th song would start slow and rock (Fade to Black, Sanitarium, One) and the title track would be the second song. I didn't care though, Rasmussen got the best out of them. Then came Bob freakin' Rock...

Nice job of recycling.  I applaud your efforts of going green!

I love Metallica. All of the 80s stuff is solid. The Black Album is solid. The 90s stuff is somewhat of a change of pace and let down. I still manage to find some gems in Load and Reload. The Garage Inc. album of the covers and the S&M album were awesome. St. Anger is "meh". I think only "All within my hands" and "frantic" are okay. Some kind of monster was okay. Death Magnetic seemed like they were going back to the 80s. I like that. Hopefully this album continues the trend.

With that said. The fact that they went to Antarctica to perform for 120 scientists and contest winners and the fact that they've hit every possible continent on our Planet screams volumes of how awesome they are and why they have a huge following.
