Clemson qb Watson says 'dual threat' label a stereotype
|
So he's upset he's called a dual threat QB when that is the perfect description of what he is?
It's a compliment these days. If someone called him a "running qb" then he might have a case but just another race card play... We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Dual threat snowflake.
Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.
Quote:Gene Smith worked in the NFL too, as a GM no less. Bucky Brooks knows a lot more than Gene Smith about evaluating players.
Quote:So he's upset he's called a dual threat QB when that is the perfect description of what he is? Watson is upset because people compared him to other black QBs. Michael Vick was named in the article I read. He is right to a point: many people do interchange the terms "dual threat" and "running QB" and often the QB being referred to is black.

He is an elite rusher. Two threats. Dual threat. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! What he is saying is that just because a guy can write about it, doesn't mean that he can actually do it when it comes to crunch time.
Then again, beating Gene Smith isn't that hard.
Anybody can beat Gene Smith in the scouting department.
Anyway, DeShaun Watson has a right to be upset over being compared to other black quarterbacks. It may be (just guessing here) he thinks people compare him to guys like Michael Vick because of their skin color. Does anyone remember the time when Rush Limbaugh made racial comments about Donovan McNabb and so many people got mad he quit to avoid getting fired? We show less advertisements to registered users. So let me get this straight, when I compare Tate Martell to Johnny Manziel it is fine. However, when I compare Deshaun Watson to Michael Vick it is some sort of racism. Good to know.

What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???
Quote:Nobody is comparing Tate Martell and Johnny Manziel. What are you talking about? Tate Martell is one of the top dual threat QBs in the country. He is committed to Ohio state. He is white and often compared to Manziel due to his style of play. My point is that white dual threat QBs are often compared to other white dual threat QBs all the time. Is skin color mentioned? No. But somehow, it is about race when comparing black dual threat QBs to other black dual threat QBs. As far as Watson is concerned, he is either just seeking attention or an idiot, because running the ball has been a primary part of his game since he was a 15 year old QB in high school.

Black quarterbacks complain about it for historical reasons. For many years the country as a whole was anti-black in all professions including major league sports. Prejudice toward blacks remains a problem today to a lesser extent. It makes sense if you look at it from this perspective and other stereotypes whites in the media have said over the years.b It is worth noting white people are making the comparisons between black quarterbacks.

It doesn't make sense. Watson has two major threats: his throwing and his running. Dual threat = two threats. Watson is a dual threat QB. The rest is just noise. J dub can't understand jokes or sarcasm but she can explain the lingering feeling of racism in the black community. Makes total sense to me. Keep trolling on but Watson is a dual threat qb. He is a threat when he runs it, he is a threat when he throws it. By definition, dual threat.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
