Quote:“[Joeckel] is a good starting offensive lineman. He has as much talent as anybody along that offensive line. This will be a little bit of a transition for him, but he’s played some good football for us. Now, he’s had moments that haven’t been as good. But I look across the league and I think Luke Joeckel can take us where we need to go.”

Ok Dave, you must be seeing something that im not. Thoughts? (Dont give me the what else is he supposed to say line)

Lmao. What else is he supposed to say? Rag on him and say hes busted and will be gone after this season? They have discussions like that behind closed doors, not to the media. Teams that do thst stuff through the media are not well run. This is a business.

You think if Joeckel was a very good lineman like he says here wouldnt get his 5th year option picked up by the same guy?

Keeo whining everyday about what someone says to the media though. You are beyond clueless.

Maybe they just didn't want to be on the hook for the 5th year option pay at LT money. Maybe he plays well and they pay him G money. Maybe he sucks and they let him walk.

Not sure what exactly these morons want.

Cut Joker and plug in someone that isn't as good as him just to appease them?

Jog on...

Quote:Geno Atkins wins against most O-linemen...just say'n.

In the previous pre-season game to the one in Jacksonville,  Geno Atkins gave another former 1st Round pick,  LG Laken Tomlinson problems as well.    Now that Atkins is closing in on 3 years since he tore his ACL,  he's looking like the player that earned a lucrative contract.   Atkins is a main reason why the Bengals appear to be one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the AFC entering this season.  Arguably,  the top team in the conference.

How about say he needs to play better and up his game. Thats the problem with this staff too much caring about players feelings. You wont see a guy like Mike Tomlin kiss there butt. Its evident that he needs to play better but to say hes got as much talent as say Linder or Parnell is dumb.

Tomlin calls out specific players for specific issues?

(Other than maybe suspensions?)

C'mon man...

all coaches and GMs use coach speak. You don't know what they really think until after they've made a move.

Just get over it. You're gonna have to deal with the Joker a lil while longer.

And Alualu

If Luke was cut at noon today, how long do you think it would take for him to be on another team?  I'd say around 2pm.

He should just do public floggings. That'll show everyone what a tough GM he is. No more tippy-toeing around this stuff. 20 lashes.

You don't think they're saying that behind closed doors?

They brought in a new LT. They didn't pick up his 5th year option for next year and is making him prove it this year or he's gone. What do you think that is telling Luke? That he's doing a phenomenal job, "is a very good OL", and he's going to be a mainstay here long term?

I don't get it. He isn't going to air his dirty laundry to the media.

so much this.

I mean.... everyone got what they wanted. Beachum is our new LT.

so.... now what?

If Joker struggles I could see him being moved and Reed be given a shot.

But until then.... what exactly should our GM do on the cusp of week 1?

He should cut Joeckel to appease the fanbase. All successful franchises listen to their fans regarding personnel decisions.

Exactly, like when the fan base ran Tom Coughlin out of town. I'd say that has worked out pretty well for us.

Not picking up the 5th option is saying he needs to play better and up his game. Saying he is terrible right before week 1 would do no good and only be a distraction.

Caldwell as a GM has tried his best to keep the players he drafted on the roster for as long as possible, which I guess is understandable.
