So instead we should have kept Beadles or now we should start an undradted rookie or guy who has been on the practice squad for a couple years over Joeckel who has played exactly one half of preseason football at LG?


You cant solve every problem on the team. Theres always going to be a weak spot or two, and at this point in time Joeckel is best option for LG.

I think a 3rd or 4th rounder this year could have been used on an offensive lineman. Josh Sitton was available just now. There are other options than just Joeckel at LG.

Never said you did, but the options on the roster aren't better. You aren't going to fill every hole in the offseason.

 

Did you see our defense last year? We basically went all defense in the draft, deservedly so.

 

As for Josh Sitton, he signed with an NFC North rival 2 hours south of GB a couple days after being let go...let's move on from that one. He was never coming here. He even said in an exit interview he had some teams from the south that were inquiring about him but it was "too damn hot" for him.

Yes, but Coughlin was accomplished while Gus is not. That Coughlin should've been fired at the time (he should've) only punctuates how Bradley shouldn't have lasted this long.

Personally, I'm disgusted Caldwell didn't quote the following verbatim:

 

"Luke Joeckel is a disgrace. He is pond slime who steals oxygen from kittens and orphans. I'm a moron for selecting him and wish to make amends for my crimes by selling my organs on the black market."

I know I'm probably in the minority on these matters, but I feel Coughlin was justly fired. Not because he was a bad coach, but because he was trying to tackle too many roles and had become way too inflexible.  I do not believe he would have had the success he had in NY if he stayed in Jax.  He needed and benefitted from the wake up call. Heck, he even had to have a SECOND wake up call during his tenure in NY due to his inflexibility rearing it's ugly head again -  he was losing the support of a locker room full of talented players because of it. 

 

At the same time, I applaud the patience the owner and GM are extending to Bradley currently.  I have legitimate gripes with the coaching of this team, but I truly believe a season like this one, with this talent level was worth waiting for to get an accurate evaluation of this staff.  I'm not entirely optimistic Bradley will pull it off and keep his job, but I appreciate him being given this rare opportunity. 

 

I feel like we are a fortunate fan base to have an owner with vision and a GM that refuses to kowtow to popular opinion.

Not really, NYCJ summed it up pretty well. He was done here and it was time to move on. Bradley was done here last year and it's past time to move on. Season starts soon, Gus's last chance will soon be underway.
