Dante Fowler Jr. & Malik Jackson
|
Quote:The above is how Fowler is going to have to "win" in 1 on 1 pass rush situation, quickness, speed to power, and hand usage. He doesn't have the flexibility and bend to consistently turn the corner against some of the leagues better tackles, once he learns to use his hands (think Olivier Vernon) he'll be a force off the edge. Are you saying he does well here or doesn't? It looks like he does very well beating his man and then just get sandwiched by the RG having no one to block. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Are you saying he does well here or doesn't? Lol that's exactly what I saw. Fowler got double teamed on that one.
Good grief! We all knew that Fowler was going to need actual game time to be able to perform after the injury! the Defense has multiple new starters that are really playing an NFL game together for the first time, it will take a little time to gel. I expect that we will see more pressure from all areas of the line as the season goes on (and I hope so!). 1 game you all, against a Good OL that has mostly played together for a good long time (obviously Sitton was replaced with Lane this year, but at least Lane has been on the team for multiple seasons). Oh, and btw, we went against probably the most slippery QB in the league as well. No need to hit the panic button yet on the pass rush.
Quote:Rookie DEs rarely do well. It seems fans expectations were a bit too high. There are a handful of edge players who play well as rookies, Khalil Mack (despite not racking up sacks) was consistently disruptive as a rookie, that disruption translated to "sacks" as a sophomore. Danielle Hunter (3rd round pick for the Vikings last year) was a force off the edge in obvious passing situations, he's primed for a big year this season. Preston Smith (2nd round pick of the Redskins in 2015) was also productive, racking up 8 sacks. Edge players that play well as rookies all usually have one thing in common, the ability to bend the edge, that rare ability is nearly impossible for a offensive tackle to defend, its what separates the good pass rushers from the great ones. Edge rushers who don't possess the god given ability of elite "bend" take a little longer to develop, Olivier Vernon wasn't an impact player until he learned to use his hands, Fowler is in a similar situation.

Quote:Are you saying he does well here or doesn't? Yes I'm saying he did well, he beat the tackle with his hands and foot quickness, those are his strengths. When he hones in on those strengths (it might take a couple of years) he'll be consistently disruptive. Quote:He can play DE, he just needs to get stronger and use his quickness/speed/hands in pass rush situations. He'll never be Von Miller but he has a chance to be a 8-10 sack/year guy. Yeah I hope he works out as a DE as its far more valauable than a SLB. Think his hustle will play off later on in the season.

Seems to already be a good run defender which is nice to see. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Seems to already be a good run defender which is nice to see. That was one of the reasons why he was the first edge defender selected in 2015, he's big and strong enough to set the edge against the run, unlike Vic Beasley (who was recently moved to WLB). I think Fowler will be fine, he just has to learn his strengths and weaknesses as a pass rusher, he's not going to beat too many tackles around the edge with bend so he'll have to become a "technician" so to speak
Funny, in the Denver game the announcers were talking about the Denver pass rush not being as good without Malik giving push up the middle, pushing Cam back so Von could get sacks. Cam was able to stay up in the pocket and Von was pushed deep often.
I think he eventually got to him once, but that's because he's Von Miller.... Rivers isn't a mobile guy like Aaron... let's see if we can get him rattled before he gets his passes off. Since he'll be without Allen. Quote:I disagree. We should totally write off the pass rush. After all, it's been one whole game. No, its been 5 years.

Cam was able to stay up in the pocket and Von was pushed deep often. This, Malik made Von Miller/Demarcus better and vice versa. The problem in Jacksonville is the team(currently) doesn't have anyone on the edge that can consistently beat tackles in 1 on 1 pass rush situations, that allows offense coordinators to "scheme" Jackson out of the game with double teams. Once this team is able to get consistent pressure off the edge, it will allow Malik to rush in 1 on 1 situations, where he should win the majority of the time. You can't tell me the Packers weren't holding on that play in the endzone. Should have resulted in a safety. Numerous times I saw our defensive lineman getting group hugged by the Packers line. They didn't play great but it really was better than I expected going against them. The lack of officiating made us look worse.
No pain, no gain.
Quote:No, its been 5 years. So, it's been five years with this personnel? Go buy some tampons baby. If you didn't have something to whine about you'd have no purpose here. Or maybe you should get yourself a binky. ![]()

Jackson and Marks are not going to be getting the sacks, they are responsible for creating the pressure. Its up to Wash and Gus to bring pressure with Fowler and Jack to get them
Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.
Quote:Jackson and Marks are not going to be getting the sacks, they are responsible for creating the pressure. Its up to Wash and Gus to bring pressure with Fowler and Jack to get them I think Wash and Bradley could get more creative with their blitz packages, especially considering the speed and athleticism of guys like Jack and Telvin, along with the improved secondary play. I love Mike Zimmer's scheme here in MN where they'll line-up two of their most athletic linebackers (Barr and Kendrick's) in the A-gap on obvious passing situations, they'll either blitz from that formation or drop in coverage, it creates headaches for offenses. Now granted, the defensive personnel here in Minnesota is better than what Jacksonville currently has, but it's clear this team won't be able to get to the QB while only rushing 4 so it's worth a shot. I think Dante Fowler could excel in the "Anthony Barr" role, Barr might be a slightly better athlete than Fowler but the two players are similar, the Jags have the defensive personnel to get really creative, maybe we'll see some of that creativity next week against Rivers, who's literally a statue in the pocket. If you didn't have something to whine about you'd have no purpose here. Or maybe you should get yourself a binky. I see you being the only one crying. It dont matter this personnel or that personnel, since Bradley's been here, we haven't had a pass rush. Quote:I see you being the only one crying. Its close until halftime and then we get destroyed in the second half. ![]()
