Quote:Yes, yes, the Republicans have consistently been the bastion of Civil rights. Well they pretty much have been. Let's start back in 1860 when the Republican party got Abraham Lincoln elected and were successful at abolishing slavery. In 1872 it was the Republican party that fought for legislation allowing women the right to vote. In 1964 the Republican party in congress had overwhelming support (more than the Democrats in congress) for the Civil Rights Act. In 1965 the Republican party in congress had overwhelming support (more than the Democrats in congress) for the Voting Rights Act. Those are the facts. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
Quote:Well they pretty much have been.Interesting that you left of the southern strategy off your list. If the modern Republican part were still the same party ideologically as the one that elected Lincoln I would be one. So let's not pretend the parties are the same as they were then.
Quote:Interesting that you left of the southern strategy off your list. Would you say that Republicans have consistently been for human rights given history? It's not just the Republicans from 1860, but also Republicans as recently as 1965. I could give more modern examples if you want. My point is that to say the Republican party is "anti-civil rights" is pretty much a false statement. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

No. I, in fact said the opposite as the opposite is true. They have not been consistent considering the last event you gave was the precursor to the Southern Strategy employed by Republicans. That's not consistent at all. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! |
