Y'all trying to tell me ARob has gone against Revis, Josh Norman, Vontae Davis, Desmond Trufant but....Jason Verrett was the Achilles heel for him?

 

This team spent the whole game turning the key and never got the engine going. We spent the whole game trying to establish the run to set up the pass and when we did pass Bortles became gun shy and intimidated. This was the Bengals pre-season game all over again. Just jammed us up and gave us no room to breathe.

I don't think it's that simple. Maybe the right QB coach could help him faster, but Bortles has some pretty deep-rooted issues and Olson is respected around the league as a quality QB developer.

Yes, I'm being overly simplistic. But I think there is a legitimate concern that the way Olsen is handling bb5 is troublesome. And I wonder why we are running the offensive plays and formations we are at this point.


I don't recall 1 quick screen last year. Now we're running that play multiple times a game the last 2 weeks.


Same with the 3 wr bunch formation. I don't remember us running that formation often last year. Now it seems that is our base offensive formation. Am I wrong?


Lastly, bb5's accuracy and command of the offense hasn't progressed as one would like to see from a 3rd year qb. Its just shocking to see. This doesn't look like the offense from last year. You gotta wonder how much Olsen is being held back by the head coach, don't you?

Meh. The first interception was thrown behind Lee, but just like last week, it was catchable. Lee had the ball in his hands. Second INT - bad throw...underthrown.   Give Blake a running game, a line that can block and doesn't commit penalties that put Blake in a 1st and 20 situation, and let's see what he can do.

The secondary of SD DID in fact play a heck of a game, but Bortles made them look even better today. 

 

Don't get me wrong fellas  - I still like #5 plenty.  I just saw a lot of mistakes today.  He also needs to get rid of it faster - even if it's a throw away.

Bottles is the least of our concerns.

 

We have a lack of confidence in the gameplay and coaching staff that reflects from the git-go.

Bortles is an Interception machine.

Yeldon is terrible.

The defense is clearly the worst in the NFL.

If Bortles throws a pick early in the game - he's toast. He can't get out of his own head at that point. If he starts well he can sling it around just fine. Also, we need to move the pocket for him more often. He's not there yet with maneuvering around in a static pocket.

Gene's Myth

Bortles is trash. He has a HUGE windup that hasn't gotten better. He is terribly inaccurate. He makes sooo many bad decisions. He throws way too many ducks.

 

This was also noticeable in the preseason game against cincy too. His numbers were inflated last year because of games like today. Garbage time and hail marys.

Obviously the defense is our main problem. We've allowed 27 points and 38 points in consecutive weeks. That's whole nother' topic for another time.


But something has happened to Bortles. He is throwing off his back foot, and he is throwing before the receiver comes out of his break. This is a good thing but also a bad thing if the timing is off.


After his 2nd pick, he started dumping the ball off and not throwing to guys wide open.


Yeldon had 8 catches for 10 yards.


This same offense led the league in explosive plays a year ago. Now the NFL has adjusted and forcing Bortles to dump it off.


He is missing his intermediate routes.

Blake is like a pitcher that has decent control but not command. 

 

Extra apropos metaphor considering his throwing motion...these screens are never going to work because the defense has a quarter of a second longer to react than they do against most other QBs.
