I'm warming up to the idea of taking Manziel..

Manziel throws in midair more often than I'd like to see from a QB

I feel like every week we win and drop in the draft order we start to like a different QB dont get me wrong I want QB as bad as anyone else here, but I do not want to reach for someone just because we need a QB, for instance last year when everyone wanted Geno Smith because we needed a QB. If Dave's guy is not there at our pick I would love it if we got the best available guy there whether it be a DE, QB, or any position. I want us to get the best available guy for us on the board and not reach because there are guys that will fall to the second-third rounds like Fales and Garoppolo and quite frankly both of these guys could be as good or better as the guys draft in the first.

News flash: Johnny Manziel said if the NFL does not grade him as a first round pick, he probably will stay at TAMU.

It seems everyone expects him to be graded as a first round pick, so I am not too worried about this happening.

Quote:Actually if you watch them play they are very similar.  Similar heights, both mobile and like to throw the ball on the run outside the pocket.  Neither has the strongest arm in the world.  Both are great leaders and highly motivated guys.
Good to know right out of the gate that I can ignore you when it comes to draft evaluation for the next 6 months.

What is wrong with someone saying two quarterbacks are almost the same height and like to throw on the run?

What if they decide to do something like sign Cutler.

Zero chance of that happening. David Caldwell's plan is very clear: draft the future quarterback.

What if, like last year, there isn't one?

-Caldwell may not believe Bridgewater is a franchise guy

--Even if he does, he might not be available to us

-Caldwell may not believe Carr is a franchise guy

--Even if he does, he might not be available to us

-Caldwell may not believe any of the others are franchise guys eitther

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

If that's the case, I'd love the Jags to at least make an attempt at Ryan Mallett.

Could you explain the case for Ryan Mallett? Because I've seen this idea multiple times and I just don't get it.

He has a cannon but not much else. I liked his potential at Arkansas and he thrived in that Petrino offense. But he does not seem to have progressed since being in the league. I think part of the appeal some is the Patriot mystique. Just because he plays for Belichick and New England, people assume he has gotten better. Which it does not appear he has.

No thanks.

I think Manziel is our dark horse first-round pick. Not for his production (which is incredible) or his style of play (which is exciting), but for his attitude.

That's right, I said it.

He plays with such a competitiveness on the field and has such a swagger... I think that could really draw Gus to him. He has incredible potential but also incredible risk.

I trust Caldwell. If he picks Johnny, then I'll be pretty sure we have a legitimate star on our team.

You don't know that he hasn't gotten better. He hasn't had a real opportunity to show that yet.

I keep reading stuff like this...

So is Caldwell merely a figurehead who's handing in the piece of paper for who Gus wants or is Caldwell picking the QB??

I'm not trying to put that all on you, as I tried to preface that with I've seen that kind of quote a lot on here.

All I am trying to say is that I think people seem to have this idea in their heads that the Jags have tunnel vision for finding a carbon copy of Russell Wilson (because of Gus/ Seattle/ etc etc) and I'm not sure thats the case. (AND HOPE ITS NOT)

People have to remember that Caldwell was part of 2 QB drafts in his front office history and both were nothing like Russell Wilson, i.e. Manning/ Matt Ryan.

Personally, if anything, I hope Caldwell goes THAT route/ that mold, if he's trying to find "the next one of".

I don't think Manziel is anything much like Wilson except for height and pocket movement. Hes is own beast entirely.

The points made in my post still stand. They are not bullseye aimed at you, as I tried to explain, so relax. I know you know your stuff. I just used your post as a platform, per se.

Well what's your appraisal of Manziel?

I think the coaching staff would really ease Manziel into the position like the Seahawks did with Wilson. Wilson was only throwing for about 150-200 yards in the beginning.
