As I was walking back into the neighborhood this morning looking up at the stars, it suddenly hit me that this was the last time I would be walking that path in the morning and got a little bummed.

 

We’ll be out of the house by this evening and close tomorrow.  A lot of good stuff has happened over the years in that house.  Tons of family gatherings, lot of neighborhood get togethers, and the good feeling we got from remodeling the house from top to bottom.

 

My wife and I got married and had our reception in the back yard.  I held my oldest daughter’s reception in the back yard as well.  Lots of great memories (and a few bad) will be left there.  Plus, just a really, really, nice house.  My wife has been getting emotional for a week or so now.  I’d be lying if I didn’t say it got to me a little bit this morning as I was taking that last stroll and then walking into an empty house.

 

The poor dogs are totally freaked out because of the emptiness.  It was funny last night, I was putting a last few things in the POD and they were both in there sniffing all of the furniture and wagging their tails.  They’ve been really good about hanging out at the new house with all of the noise of remodeling, but have always been more than happy to go home at the end of the day.  It will be interesting to see how they react when we stay there tonight.  Especially with no furniture in place and us sleeping on the boxspring and mattress on the floor.

 

Oh well, I’m sure it will all end up working out just fine in the long run.  And the money I am saving may actually allow me to retire when I want to.  It was a good 16 years at our home.  This one should (hopefully) be the last move ever.
