[BAD WORD REMOVED]

#21

Quote:I know.   That's what gets me about these so-called bad words.   I'm not talking about this message board so much as I am talking about the general concept of "curse words" and their social unacceptability.  It's okay to describe the word, or to use multiple words to say the exact same thing, but using one single word as a substitute for a string of words that is completely synonymous, is unacceptable.   For example, I can say "the act of having sex" but I cannot say the one word that means exactly the same thing.   I can say "excrement" but I'm not supposed to say the 4-letter word that means excrement.   If you think about it, it doesn't make sense.

Quote:Would you use those words when talking to your mother or grandmother?

My very sweet, proper devout Christian grandmother once played a very vulgar four letter slang term for women's genitals in Scrabble. In response to the exclamations of shock from her grandchildren playing partners, her simple defense was "Well, it's a word. It's in the official Scrabble dictionary." And she was right, though she would never actually say the word.

If something can corrupt you, you're corrupted already.

No. Absolutely not.

That doesn't negate my point, though.

The bottom line is a line must be drawn somewhere, or this place would be a cesspool. We would never get 100% agreement on where the line should be.

Your gradmother sounds cool.

But is she the type of elderly person who farts in public without a care in the world? Just trying to stay on topic. Smile

I'm "hunt"ing for the answer.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.

That was the first one that came to mind. The other one is what I replace Watt with when I think of JJ Watt.
