And bunny pet owners on here?
|
Hey just curious if any bunny owners on here. Curious how many weeks till the babies can eat and drink on own? With out the mothers help? Ours are just about a month old. And yet she pregnant again. Building nest two.
So any pointers be awesome. Thank you. This is a serious thread.

Awww, bunnies are cute. I never had one but saw a young litter in my backyard when I was a kid. How many babies do you have?
If you have enough baby rabbits and don't want more, I highly recommend getting the momma spayed. It would not be fair to her or the next litter to let her pregnancy go to term.
I used to raise rabbits as a kid. We had around 25-35 at one point. Make sure you have a wooden box with clean wood shavings for her to make the nest in. Once the babies are born, keep an eye on them. It rarely happens, but on occasions, certain mothers will reject the babies and even eat them. It's gruesome, but it does happen. It's part of the reason I no longer have them. It was a bit traumatizing as a young child. Generally, once the babies are able to hop out of the box on their own and have their eyes open, they will start to eat solid food. It'll be a few weeks. Don't wait too long to separate them either. Males (bucks) will begin to fight and that can be bad as well. Once they are near grown, always keep the bucks separated unless you want a bloody mess. Good luck.
Are you breeding for fun, sale, or food? If the last, you can start harvesting them about 6 weeks after they start on solid foods. If you want them plump then be sure to restrict their motion with small crates and feed them heavy grains.

You can raise animals for food without putting them in tiny, confined areas and restricting their motion. That's just cruel. Personally, I never ate any of my rabbits, but I knew plenty of people who did and they raised them in standard pens where they had room to run around. I just raised mine purely as show stock, but ironically, I do rabbit hunt. I just couldn't eat the ones I raised. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I'm just sitting here waiting on BB4's input. It should be good.

Bunnies are cute but from what I understand they stink when raising them.
Are they high maintenance (like cleaning up their crap) to keep clean AND can you actually train them to do anything? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Believe it or not they all are fighting (meaning pushing to get in food bowl. with mom for real food already. And one of them slides under the door to be with the momma. We call her trouble. Thank you for the input. So will start selling in a few weeks. We didn't realize till read up recently they can get pregnant once conceive. That's why momma is pregnant again. Once again ty. We scheduled an appointment for the father to be neutered next week.
