My father was an avid shooter, but not a hunter. He enjoyed the marksmanship of it. He would even load/re-load his own shells. I don't think I've ever gone hunting a day in my life, but shooting skeet is tons of fun. If you ever get a chance to take down the rare, mythical clay pigeon, I highly encourage you to take the opportunity.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

This is close to where I am at. I don't like hunting, cause as a vegetarian, I can't justify it (and I don't like killing anything but mosquitoes). But Deer populations are rampant, so hunting does play a role. I love shooting marks, cans whatever tho. I can't wait to get back to Florida, California is a nasty state to have guns in (actually its probably worse to not have guns in the cities tho).

Would I need to go to the gun range first or can you pick up clay pigeon shooting easy enough?

That depends, will you be satisfied if the birds break into 2 or 3 pieces, or do you want them to disappear in a little puff of dust?

If you've never done any shooting before, spend an hour or two with someone who knows what they're doing first.  It will help save you from developing bad habits that will affect your marksmanship (gun safety is important too).

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

When at a gun store, is anybody else tempted to ask for a phased plasma rifle in 40 watt range? You'll know the guy behind the counter is cool if he responds by saying "Hey, just what you see, pal".

Oh, and it's 2016. Why don't have these yet?

I could teach you to shoot trap in about 5 minutes in my yard.

The clays move much faster on professional machines but you can throw them by hand just to fool around.

I'm assuming you don't live in a residential area.
