Trade up for Teddy: Good or bad idea?
|
Quote:I doubt that they would trade for him if any team drafted him and would go to either their next option if tb is even their top qb or the BAPJust saying it could be like an Eli Manning scenario where the team doesn't want him but picks him anyway and holds him ransom. Not likely but has happened. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:After further review I've come to the conclusion that the Rams will not trade out of that spot if the Jags are picking #3. This year they did that. Why do people think April 2013 is not the same year as December 2013? Idiots. How did you come to that conclusion? They traded down twice last year - first before the draft and later when they were on the clock. Their assigned pick was #2. Quote:This year they did that. Why do people think April 2013 is not the same year as December 2013? Idiots.Geez, relax JW, you knew what was meant. Quote:You must have missed my post about Julio Jones. He is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and was expected to be a top 10 pick. Is there any reaszon not to like that trade? One trade doesn't mean the GM is good at trading up, you need a bigger track record than 1.

Besides, I think the "idiot" is the one so incapable of comprehending the concept of context that an entire post becomes a mystery to them if a single mistake is made.

Oh the irony of jw calling someone an idiot....
If that RV sales place wants Tebow in Jax bad enough to take out a billboard saying as much.....they should just HIRE him.

Quote:lol trying to trade the farm for a qb thats not even the best player in the draft. lol not knowing who Fran Tarkenton was while pretending to be a football expert Quote:Agreed, it all depends on the asking price. Agree. Only losing a second rounder to ensure teddy would be ideal especially if it could be next years 2nd. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Unless its trading away as little as a single day 3 pick to trade up to a higher spot in the first round, I never, EVER endorse the idea/ philosophy of trading up. I.e. the Blackmon deal was a good one (in theory). Deals like the Redskins trading for RGEETHREEE and the Falcons trading up for Julio Jones are just not smart. Everything has to wind up perfect for you for them to ultimately wind up being worth it.
Its much better to be on the other end of those kinda deals. (trading down/ accumulating a bunch of picks)

If Caldwell traded up for that bum we'd have an early indicator that he's a terrible GM.
I'm under the mindset that Caldwell will trade down and still select Mack.

Quote:If Caldwell traded up for that bum we'd have an early indicator that he's a terrible GM. He's not a "bum" not sure why you think he is.... but I also do not want him trading up for Teddy (or anyone else for that matter) unless the compensation given up to do so is along the lines of a single 3rd day pick to do so. I hate, hate, hate the Julio Jones/ RG3 type deals. Everything has to pretty much go perfect for the team giving up the draft choices.....and in the real world that just doesn't happen often. Quote:He's not a "bum" not sure why you think he is....Like I said I would give up a 2nd rounder this year or our 1st rounder next year, but that's all. Almost as much as the Julio trade for a franchise QB is well worth it to me, but I agree the RG3 deal is probably never worth it. However, I think the biggest problem with those two deals is the type of teams those two are. Aging rosters, very little depth, unhealthy salary cap situations...the whole regression shebang. Then throw away multiple draft picks on top of that, nope. I think a young team with decent depth and a healthy salary can pull off trade ups from time to time and do fine. Almost as much as the Julio trade for a franchise QB is well worth it to me, but I agree the RG3 deal is probably never worth it. So you think a Julio Jones deal would be OK for the Jaguars but not the Falcons? Sorry, but I don't see your logic there. The Falcons were #1 in the NFC with Julio Jones on the roster. Atlanta was #27 in the draft that year, which means they needed very little to upgrade their offense and needed to give up a lot of picks to move up to #6. I don't understand where you get aging roster, very little depth, and regression from. The Jaguars, on the other paw, can't afford to trade that many picks away for one player because they need to upgrade a lot of positions and doing that requires getting, not losing, more draft picks. Salary cap situations have nothing to do with it. Quote:Like I said I would give up a 2nd rounder this year or our 1st rounder next year, but that's all. Almost as much as the Julio trade for a franchise QB is well worth it to me, but I agree the RG3 deal is probably never worth it. If RG3 turns out to be a top 10 QB for the next decade is it worth it?
Quote:If RG3 turns out to be a top 10 QB for the next decade is it worth it? And how often does that ceiling ever seem to be reached with these type of deals?? Theres always more of a chance that the player never reaches that level or never lasts long at that level because of injury. And then you're out all those draft picks. Its a recipe for disappointment. Its almost always better to be on the side of those deals that is getting the boatload of picks rather than giving them up. I can't remember one instance, really, where it ever panned out for the team giving away the mass-picks. |
