Trade up for Teddy: Good or bad idea?

#61

No.  There are comparable prospects in this draft and we have way too many holes to fill to be giving up picks.

but I also do not want him trading up for Teddy (or anyone else for that matter) unless the compensation given up to do so is along the lines of a single 3rd day pick to do so. I hate, hate, hate the Julio Jones/ RG3 type deals. Everything has to pretty much go perfect for the team giving up the draft choices.....and in the real world that just doesn't happen often.
wait you dont want to trade for a QB in the class of Peyton, Luck and who was the other one, Marino? LOLOLOL

Quote:And how often does that ceiling ever seem to be reached with these type of deals?

Theres always more of a chance that the player never reaches that level or never lasts long at that level because of injury. And then you're out all those draft picks.

Its a recipe for disappointment.

Its almost always better to be on the side of those deals that is getting the boatload of picks rather than giving them up.

I can't remember one instance, really, where it ever panned out for the team giving away the mass-picks.

How many times do I have to tell you it worked perfectly for Julio Jones and the Falcons? With Jones: #1 team in the NFC. Without Jones: top five draft pick. And you said it never worked out for any team that did it? Like I said earlier, they would have had no chance of getting him with only a third day pick because they went up from 27 to 6 in the first round. You tell me how it did not work out for the Falcons.

In the case of RG3, it ruined his career because the Redskins thought, "We gave up three first round picks for him, so he needs to be our week 1 starter." If they had not given up so much, I bet they would have done the right thing - put him on PUP at the beginning of preseason.

We have 10 draft picks. I read a while back Teddy Bridgewater is in a class by himself.

Maybe, but there are still some concerns such as his size and the level of competition he's faced.  And even though we have 10 draft picks, we still have a ton of other holes: OG, C, RB(?), DE, LB, S, etc.  Not to mention that we don't really have a ton of depth at any one position, which is important too.

This team needs a quarterback, two guards, a center, a right tackle, a tight end, a running back, two defensive ends, a defensive tackle, and two outside linebackers. Two more drafts will be needed if Caldwell wants to upgrade all of those positions with rookies. I would be open to trading one late round pick if necessary to leapfrog another team like we did for Justin Blackmon, but nothing else.

Quote:All depends on the price. I'd give up a day 2 pick this year or our 1st rounder next year, but not a RG3 style haul.
what?

I don't dislike Teddy.  I think he has the potential to be a decent QB.

If you dont want the guy at 3 or dont want to trade up for him its hate?  I wouldn't mind it at all if we took him in the 2nd and he could sit be behind Henne for half a year.

Everyone has their opinion but when you bump a 3 month old thread when the draft or the season hasn't started, it gets awkward

you will get over it, my point was to see if these people still feel the same way. Would they still give up a 2nd and future 1st?
