Asperger's syndrome, epilepsy, and other disorders

I "liked" this post. This is what compelled me to start a thread here at the risk of getting suspended again (God forbid that happens).

My #1 problem with people on this forum is not simply the sarcasm and jokes themselves, but behavior patterns that appear to be obvious bullying based on my logic which is dictated by Asperger's syndrome. It's impossible to figure out people are not bullying me because all signs point that way when they reply to my posts in certain ways. For example often someone replies to my post with what appears to be an obvious lie. The same poster knows from reading many of my posts over the years such statements make me mad and Asperger's syndrome is directly the cause of that. How many times have I said, "If it looks like a lie it is a lie" this season alone? I have been posting that line for years, so only new members can not know my thoughts about it! Therefore, the only reason that makes sense is the poster tried to make me mad since he knows how to push my buttons. If people still don't understand this, searching for examples only requires a few clicks and scrolls in the football sections.

Quote:JW I have no problem with you.  I often do argue/debate with you about things and I do think at times you take your comments about people too far.

I'm not on board with the camp that thinks you don't contribute to the board or that you should go away. You are valuable to the board and sometimes I think people would be best just to ignore your comments. I do have to do that sometimes and look the other way. I might be a little hard on you at times too but that's the way of life around here. I hope you haven't been too upset by anything I've said and I think you know you can message me if I ever do.

You are the inspiration for my username after all!

I remember that. Before your username change you said I am your favorite poster.

Calling my favorite team Ohio instead of Ohio State in the CFP Final Four thread was interpreted as a lie. So was "This season is over," before January 2. You have known me way too long to not understand that. I know you are not a bad person but simply saying you did not mean it literally is not good enough for someone with AS. The disorder makes people demand the actual meaning in an understandable way.

I did send you a PM weeks ago and you never replied.

Quote:JW, I don't mind.  Be yourself.  It doesn't bother me.

And I don't really understand why it would bother anyone else.  It's just a dang message board.  It's not like we know each other or anything.  People take this stuff too personally.

I take stuff personally because I can't help it. Having AS and being bullied for decades is a lethal combination.

The problem is you categorize sarcastic humor as a lie. That's all fine and good if you don't want people using humor in threads you started. However, on that same coin, you should not insert yourself into other threads and begin throwing tantrums because you don't get the humor. I find it a little curious that you can detect veiled invective about your rants but can't discern obvious banter.

Quote:I don't think that most people understand or comprehend the "world that you live in" or your mindset.  I don't think that people understand that you see everything in a logical way.

People tend to sometimes be sarcastic which I know that you have a hard time processing.  The other thing is that people sometimes communicate in a different way that again, you don't understand or comprehend.

As an example, when people call you "JDub" it's not meant to be "mean" to you.  It's simply a "short form" of addressing your old username (Jaguar Woman).  J for Jaguar and Dub shortened for the letter  W in Woman.  It's kind of like when some posters refer to me as JIB.  You think that people do it to be "mean" when in fact they're not being mean at all.

The other thing is, since you are a very logical person, sometimes the way that you comment and/or ask questions comes across as being rude or incorrect.  An example of this is how you started this thread which I highlighted in bold.  Nobody thinks that you should be treated bad because of your disability.  The fact of the matter is, many people don't know or understand that you have a disability to begin with.  The other thing is that often you try to correct people's opinion because it doesn't match your own.

I think that is actually the main issue.

Quote:Maybe this isn't for you then.

You can't expect hundreds of people to change to suit your "alleged" disability.

I, for one, don't believe it for a second.

That's not fair.

What if I said that I "didn't believe for a second" your "alleged" current illness?  Would that be right?  Would that be fair?  Of course not.

She's not reaching out asking for people to change their behavior, she's reaching out so that people understand her.

Think about this.  There is another poster on here that posts quite frequently that people know that he has a disability.  Yet, his posts are always taken with "a grain of salt" so to speak.  The thing is, people somehow understand that he has a certain disability and deal with it.  People like you should probably try to understand that people like JDub also exist on this board and have much to contribute.

I would challenge you to put your current health "dilemma" up against somebody that has Asperger's syndrome and see which is worse.  At least you are able to lead a "normal" life.  Somebody like JDub struggles to lead a "normal life" every day whether it's on a message board or in person.

I would think that someone with your alleged medical condition would have an appreciation for living a normal life.  I would also think that someone with your alleged medical condition would have just a little more compassion for other people.

So you think I should not even reply to good posts simply because jokes are told in the same threads? Got it.

It looks like you do not appreciate my participation on this forum.

Or how about just ignoring the posts that you think are obviously a lie, but the rest think is just sarcastic humor? You don't have to confront every post you think is a lie.

I know it's not easy for you, but if you want to get along better on here, spend as much time worrying about how you interact with other posters as you do worrying about how they interact with you. Instead of immediately calling someone a liar when they are being sarcastic, ask POLITELY if it is meant to be a joke. Don't say something like "you are only lying to make me mad" when they aren't really lying in the first place. That is just asking for a flame war to start.

And like others have said, and even I've told you many times now, it's all in how you talk to people. You have aspergers, but having it doesn't give you carte blanche to throw around idiot and stupid and other things you say. You hate it when people say those things in regards to you, so you know how it feels when you say it to other people.

Being "literal" is understandable, literal and rude to people is not.

Bunnie, I have been asking people, "Why do you say that?" when they annoy me. Nobody ever answers the question.

I wonder if anyone doubting her realizes what inhumane, insensitive jerks they are if they are wrong. The sad thing is I doubt they care.

I don't mean once they've got to the point of annoying you, I mean when you see something (from anyone) that you believe to be untrue.

And "If" she is nothing but an online con artist, the posters and mods who bought her crap have defended her for no reason..

Thank you for proving my point.

I'd rather err on the side of care for my fellow man, but anonymity protects jerks. Lucky for you.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying if you don't know for sure if what you read is a lie or sarcasm, err on the side of caution and either ask for clarification or don't reply at all. I would be willing to bet that 99% of the time it is sarcasm you're reading. As Bunnie so adeptly replied, try to view conversations from the viewpoint of others.

It's called "busting your balls", a good natured form of jest that most people, especially sports-minded people, regularly engage in. You should give it a try, you just might like it.

As was mentioned above, sarcasm is a device often used by those who don't suffer from your disability and pretty much everyone here enjoys a well placed sarcastic remark so it's not going to go away.  I'm sympathetic, but its not everyone else's responsibility to bend to your will and/or disability.  You can clearly function here as you have been posting for years.  If it annoyed you more than you enjoyed posting here I'd have to think you'd just decide to leave rather than put up with it, so I'm assuming you get more enjoyment out of this than annoyance.

Perhaps you should add a short paragraph to your signature explaining that you have Asperger's and what it is and add a request to not respond to you with sarcasm since your disability prevents you from processing it as it was meant to be processed.  That way new members will better understand who they're responding to.

I used to believe her schtick. But it's changed enough through the years to know it's not really the case.

I think the best solution would be to ban her from the main Jaguars board. Just let her troll the political section.

This is what I do more often than not these days. Though I don't have Aspergers I do have a mild form of a mood disorder and a bad case of anger issues. I am also a sensitive natured person and I have to really be aware of what is actually being said versus what I think is being said. It is not always easy and I avoid commenting more often than not on certain subjects, to certain posters, etc. You can tell when I've finally had it with someone when I insult them or call them a name. That is a last resort for me.
