Marcedes Lewis

What about somebody from the Northeast but is living elsewhere on job placement? Do they spread the light or lose their gift of knowledge?

Quote:which shows you how overrated blocking actually is from the position in a passing league.Mercedes is better than Kyle Brady. Marcedes* Quote:What about somebody from the Northeast but is living elsewhere on job placement? Do they spread the light or lose their gift of knowledge? Northeasterners will tell you that you lose one IQ point for each degree of latitude south you go. If you pass the Mason-Dixon line you are required to be institutionalized.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
I love message boards where people get "tough" behind a key board lol. People 5'5" 150 can act and pretend to be 6'6" 250 hahahahahah straight comedy son.
Quote:Best TE on the roster, no might about it. How much would we save cutting him? Best TE on the roster or not, if we save just half of the 8+ million, we can use that as part of a signing bonus for an immediate starter elsewhere. A 300-yard TE isn't hard to replace. His blocking, however, may prove a bit more difficult. But, for 8+ million, we can sign better OL (Mack). We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

If you read the thread, you would have your answer already. He is due 7.5 million before bonuses and the Jaguars would eat 3 million if they cut him. FWIW, I keep if the savings is 4.5mil. We are likely going to have a first year QB and we need him to have more veteran targets, not less.

This is like a Jaguars message board version of SHallow Hal with some of you..... You look at Marcedes and somehow see visions of Antonio Gates in his prime or something. Its beyond odd. He's friggin average at best. Replacing him will be as easy as pie. Quote:and what on Gods green earth makes you think it will be difficult to replace one target Marcedes with another target (upgrade at same position)????If it's easy as pie - name 2 free agents and 2 rookie prospects who will block as well as Lewis and produce receiving like he has the past 4 weeks.

Not to mention one that will already have a grasp of the offense and will be able to work on gelling with the QB 100% rather than learning the play book / getting familiar with the NFL vs college. He's definitely better than "average at best." He's a good NFL TE.
Is he overpaid? No doubt. He's a good TE being paid like an elite TE. If he's willing to restructure his contract, then that's something we should definitely do. Let's not act like his talents are easily replaceable, though. His production in the passing game hasn't been stellar, but that's not completely his fault (terrible QB play, the fact that he's pretty much been functioning as a 3rd OT, injuries, etc.). He's one of the best blocking TE's in the game, and that's valuable, even in a passing league. We'd be lucky to get someone in FA as good as ML (let's be real, we're not signing Jimmy Graham or anyone similar). I'm all for keeping ML around, even on this contract. Is his contract really hamstringing us in any way?
I think Lewis is comically underrated. He would absolutely be a top tight end with a better QB.
Quote: Is his contract really hamstringing us in any way?not in the slightest Even with a healthy amount of "dead money" hanging over the Jags - they will easily be among the top 3 in cap space next season. Quote:not in the slightest Exactly. Who cares if we're overpaying someone? It's not like his contract is so terrible that it's hamstringing the organization. Marcades is a mismatch in the passing game... hes balf a foot taller than most players. If we had a QB who could take advantage of that more often he would put up some decent numbers.
A more athletic TE is needed, but thats no reason to throw away a valuable asset in Marcedes. Quote:If it's easy as pie - name 2 free agents and 2 rookie prospects who will block as well as Lewis and produce receiving like he has the past 4 weeks.nyc used logic wild tmd fled

With our cap room, we don't need to release anyone to make room for someone else. Right now a good all round TE who has played well this year is more valuable than another $4.5 million in cap room. Yeah I'm fine with Marcedes and what he's making. He is very versatile. Not only is he a mismatch in the passing game but he can block amazingly well. These days its usually one or the other.
If things go according to plan....we'll have Blackmon, Shorts, Sanders, Lewis and a healthy MJD....perfect situation for a young QB or heck an above average vet. And if Toddman or Robinson pan out and we upgrade the oline with a healthy Joeckel? Good lord I'd love to see that offense.

You gotta love ML's size. If he has fixed his catching issues, which he might have considering his production the last for games, he's definately a keeper. He's made some amazing catches in this stretch. All you can hope for is that he's been coached up by a good staff that seems to get the best of out players.

They'd better add a WR this draft. Would be foolish to sit on Shorts & Blackmon when both have issues. Shorts hasn't been able to finish either of the past 2 seasons, due to injury and Blackmon, despite his immense talent, could fall off the wagon at any time (pending he gets back on to begin with)....

If you look at the things Lewis does well (blocking, physicality) and the things he has struggled with (drops). Anyone without an agenda can see his issues are not effot related.
