Tom Coughlin

@charlesrobinson League source: Tom Coughlin could rejoin #Jaguars as an executive if he doesn't come back as head coach. Possibly VP of football operations.

This is good news.

I would be ok with this. Not that anyone was looking for my aproval lol.

I'd take him as a head coach as well.

#3

Sounds good to me. Coughlin just being in the organization would be great.

Get Coughlin AND a top tier coach? Win.

Tom Coughlin always said he wants to coach again, not be an executive. Again, someone who is not an official NFL source tweeted something that makes absolutely no sense.

Mike Silver reported Coughlin tried to join Bradley's staff this offseason and said he was willing to take any spot.

That obviously means he tried to join the coaching staff, not the front office.

It also obviously means he just wants to be part of the organization. It's not a huge leap to think he would take a front office job.

TC is a head coach through and through.  It is not just in his DNA, it IS his DNA.  I don't know that for him that would suffice.

At some point you just have to let go of what you thought should happen and live in what is happening.

I want him back as HC.

He also seems to want to stay close to home at his age so that limits the jobs he can take.

If he is brought in as an executive, wonder how much sway he has in the decisions. Could Caldwell and Coughlin work together? Id prefer Coughlin as the coach and he grooms a coordinator as his replacement.

I agree, a VP of Ops position wouldn't leverage his strengths or help in our area of biggest need.

Coughlin isnt a guy that likes people in his way. He actually made the team worse when he was given the reigns of front office operations. Id prefer him as a coach and he grooms a coordinator to take over in 2 to 3 years.

"Gus Bradley's staff" can only mean right now, he wants to be a coach. I am not talking about eventually moving to the front office.

That's how I think it should be. Let him be the franchise figurehead that sets the tone and helps oversee all of the football side from an arms length. Give Dave some help hiring the HC, evaluating draft picks, and evaluating free agents. Help the head coach (hopefully Kyle Shanahan) build a staff and be a mentor when needed.

I just don't want a guy who will be 71 years old when the season starts to have to put in 100+ hour weeks, and I'm not sure that's really what Coughlin wants either.

This is good news.
I'd be happy in whatever capacity he came here. Not only would it provide a lot of nostalgia from the good ol days, that man is just good at all things football (sans cap management)

Great, but there has to be a team that is willing to give him the job. We may be that team but if we go with someone else he would be willing to take a front office job which is what the OP says.

This is good news. This organization needs Coughlin in some role. I would prefer HC but this works too.
